This is a very nice clean Stanley No. 3 smooth plane from the 40's era or a type 17 with the dark rosewood stained hardwood handles. This type has the hardwood handles that appear almost black, made to appear like the rosewood handle that were not used during this war period, the handles are in very nice condition. This plane is in good++ condition with about 95% of the original nickel plating intact on the cap cover, and about 95% of the black Japanning. The bare metal surfaces are clean, the handles and castings are solid, no cracks. This is a very nice vintage Stanley plane in very good, ready to display or use condition!
