Civil War General Charles Lane Fitzhugh left West Point in 1861 to command 4th US Artillery batteries, was ADC to General Don Carlos Buell at Shiloh, brevetted for the Battle of Smithfield, Virginia, and became Colonel, 6th New Cavalry, 1865, winning brevets for the Battle of Five Forks. a nice group of items excavated at the Camp of the 7th Iowa Cavalry at Julesburg, Colorado, from the 1864 Campaigns. Group includes 3 pistol balls, 5 carbine minies, incl 2 Sharps, a partial Burnside carbine cartridge case, 2 US eagle jacket buttons, 1/2 of a US cartridge box brass skin, no lead, all in a padded riker display box. John Bland of St Charles, Missouri was hung June 6, 1879 at St Charles Missouri, for the murder of Elijah Warren, despite his attempt to escape enroute to the gallows.
