Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 12138: Antique Photographic Transfer Porcelain Plate Hugging Little Girls

Click for more detail...

12138

Antique Photographic Transfer Porcelain Plate Hugging Little Girls This unusual old porcelain pictorial plate isn't marked so I can't date it precisely, but judging from the green transfer print in the center, it's from the early 1900s. The gold-trimmed scalloped plate measures about 7-1/2 inches diameter and is decorated with pink and blue flowers around the rim. In the center is a realistic photographic type transfer of two small girls embracing. Judging from their dresses and hair, they appear to be from the late Victorian to early Edwardian era.

The plate has no damage, although there is a little expected wear to the gold trim. This was a display plate, not for the table, so there are no scratches or marks from stacking or utensil use. The lower left edge of the green transfer may have a smudge or miss in application at the factory.

16410

Blue Fjord Wood & Sons England Ironstone Serving Platter This English Staffordshire ironstone oval serving platter is in the Blue Fjord dinnerware pattern by Wood & Sons - their version of Blue Onion. I can't find the exact production dates for the pattern, but based on the mark, it would have been made between 1954 and 1981.

The blue and creamy white transferware platter with swirl-scalloped rim measures 12-1/2 by 9-5/8 inches. It's in excellent condition with no damage, though when tilted toward strong light, you can see a couple of short, very shallow white utensil marks to the glaze. See my other listings for plates and bowls in this pattern.
