16287

Tell City Chair Company Copper and Maple Bun Warmer A scarce vintage dining accessory made by the famous Tell City Chair Company, this maple and copper piece is a bun warmer for serving hot rolls or biscuits. The hand wrought copper lid opens and closes with the thumb release above the wooden handle to keep the bread warm. The bun warmer is about 13 inches long including the handle by 7" wide by 4-1/2" high at the back.

The hammered copper top has a warm brown patina. There are some light scuffs and scratches to the wood finish at the back and interior front, all of which are evident in the photos. The next to last picture shows a thin scrape to the wood at one corner where the copper lid attaches. The original paper label that was on the bottom is gone now but it would have been marked Pattern 3104, #48 Andover finish, Tell City Chair Co. Tell City Indiana. The bun warmer is often mistaken for a coal scuttle, but the last photo is from a 1950s company lamps & decorative accessories brochure showing it is indeed a hard rock maple bun warmer (left column center).

Click for more detail...

15430

Red Roses 1940s Wooden Tole Tray Table This lovely 1940s wooden tole tray with hand painted red roses and gold scrolls on black comes with a matching black painted wood folding table stand. The large tray measures 23-1/4 by 18-1/2 inches. The stand is 22-3/4 inches high to the top rim of the tray. The spread of the stand legs is 23-1/4 by 12-1/4 inches. The back of the tray has a foil label reading "Jerywil Hand Painted Products, New York City". The table and tray fit together perfectly and appear to be original to each other.

Fedex Ground and UPS shipping are available. Email your zip code for a quote.

The tray has some random tiny specks of white paint spatter and a few scuffs and scratches, most notably near the center. There is some rub wear to the paint at the tray corners, but no chips or cracks. The stand has a few minor nicks to the edges of the legs. The woven canvas straps are intact and in good condition. The oval painted red and pink roses decoration is intact and in very good condition. There are small areas of wear or fading to the gold scroll trim.

Click for more detail...

15522

Orna Wood Syroco Clipper Ship Tie Belt Rack This vintage molded wood-pulp wall mount necktie or belt rack was made by OrnaWood. I found an identical labeled rack online, but the label is missing on this one. At the top is a carved effect old fashioned clipper ship. At the bottom are eight hinged swinging metal holders, looped with a top foot to securely hold your ties and belts. The 6-5/8 inch high by 8" wide holder is in perfect condition, undoubtedly never used because one of the hanging holes is still filled in (it knocks out when you hammer in your screw or nail). There are no scratches, scuffs, or finish loss.

I'm convinced Orna Wood was a trade name for, or a division of Syroco (Syracuse Ornamental Company of New York). Many of their products are virtually identical, and both the Orna Wood and Syroco foil labels are very similar, even using the same fancy script font. Both companies were located in New York state.

Click for more detail...

15335

Pyrographic Handkerchief Box Filled With Hankies This early 1900s antique woodburned handkerchief box was made from a pyrography kit from the Flemish Art Company of New York. I'm selling it exactly as purchased from an Idaho estate, filled with seven vintage ladies' hankies - probably none as old as the box however.

The 6-1/4 inch hinged square box has tinted red poinsettia flowers, yellow (faded from the original green) leaves, and the word Handkerchiefs in diagonal monogram style lettering. The uncolored image is repeated on the lid interior. The box is in excellent condition with no damage and only very minimal, age appropriate wear.

The hankies include a colorful all-over floral spray signed Collette, two identical scalloped white linen hankies with cutout white-on-white embroidery at one corner, a still-starched white-on-white semi-sheer hankie with lily of the valley flowers, pale green linen with variegated pink-salmon crochet edging, lace inset sheer cotton batiste with original paper label, and a hand embroidered silk hankie - this one is older than the others. Some need to be laundered, preferably hand washed. None have any holes or tears.

15096

Redwood Burl Slab Wall Clock With Starfish This vintage burl slab asymmetrical wall clock is made of redwood. In the upper right side depression is a dainty starfish. The clock measures 18 inches across by 13 inches high. The movement takes one AA battery and the clock runs fine. The super glossy epoxy finish has a few pour skips near the edges of the natural cracks and divots, and there are some faint lines or scuffs (not scratches, nothing that goes through the finish). A brass wall hanger is attached to the upper back along with a business card type label reading "Custom Made Burl Tables & Clocks, Jerry D. Knox" along with a Meridian Idaho address. Fedex ground delivery is available on this item, email your zip code for a shipping quote.

Click for more detail...

15205

Carved Wood Tribal Mask Wall Decor 18 inches This vintage carved wooden tribal is fairly large at 18 inches high by 10-1/2" wide. I'm not sure what culture the figure represents - I'm guessing South Pacific or indigenous South American. I love the facial expression and the bird or turtle head atop the stepped pyramid head dress. The unique uneven grain pattern reminds me of monkey pod, but I'm no wood expert. The upper right back of the mask is signed or marked with the initials UAA. The mask has some age to it but is in very good condition with no structural cracks or chips other than a tiny bit of edge slivering at the back as shown.

16032

Carved Wood African Tribal Mask With Elephant, Metal Trim This attractive carved wood African tribal mask has no label or signature, but I believe it was artisan made in Ghana. It's over 17 inches long by 4-1/4" wide and has an elephant head (complete with ears, tusks, and trunk) at the top. The mask face below itself wears a mask made of embossed silver colored metal. The mask is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, scratches, or damage.

Click for more detail...

13888

Folk Art Carved Wood Sea Captain Figure Wooden Leg This vintage hand carved wooden figure is an old sea captain with a wooden peg leg, 12 inches high. He wears a long navy blue pea coat with big brass buttons and has a traditional captain's hat. There's a tiny hole at the corner of his mouth, presumably for a pipe. There are some paint nicks to the base and a smudge on the sleeve cuff as shown, no other damage. The figure has no markings as to maker or origin. The last photo shows two similar nautical themed wood carved figures I have listed.

14970

1970s Wooden Jewelry Chest Pirate Style This small wood jewelry (or contraband) Pirate style chest is from the 1970s. It's made in the Spanish Mediterranean style - dark, roughly finished wood with lots of metal trim and a red velour interior lining. It measures 5-1/2" long by 4-3/4" deep and is just under 4-1/2" high. There are a few small nicks or scuffs which blend in well with the purposeful rustic construction.

15874

Rustic Peterboro Wood Splint Hinged Lid Picnic Basket This vintage white ash wood splint picnic basket was made in New Hampshire by Peterboro Basket Company. It's fairly large at 20-1/2 by 11-1/4 inches at the top by 10-1/4" high to the hinged wood lid, not including the bent wood swing handles. The basket has some age to it and is not modern, but I can't guess at the actual age. It's in really good condition though with no breaks, holes, or chips. It closes properly and the hinges are intact.

Click for more detail...

13890

Folk Art Carved Wood Longshoreman With Club Figure Because this vintage hand carved wooden figure came with a fisherman and sea captain of the same size and scale, I believe he represents a stevedore or longshoreman holding a club. He has a black string mustache, Asian style hat, and applied rather than painted eyes. The figure is just over 12 inches high and in very good condition aside from some paint rubs at the front brim of the hat. The bottom is unmarked. The last photo shows two similar nautical themed wood carved figures I have listed.

Click for more detail...

7669

1903 Tyrrells Hygienic Wood Box Quack Medicine Colon Cascade This is a wooden box (only) to a circa 1903 quack medical device - the "J.B.L. Cascade" produced by Tyrrell's Hygienic Institute of New York. It once contained "the only appliance specially made for 'flushing the colon' - basically, an early enema bag.

The instructions for use as well as the outrageous advertising claims are printed on the inside bottom of the box. An illustration of the cascade device is there too. The hinged pine box has dovetailed corners, a brass hook clasp, and the company's logo, name, product, and patent dates in pyrography on the lid. The box has some minor finish wear but is in overall good condition for being more than 100 years old. Measurements: 10 by 5-3/4 by 3-1/2 inches.

6509

Antique Whitewashed Woven Wood Picnic Basket A wonderful old white washed woven wood picnic basket with a great primitive look from a Montana estate, 13-1/2" by 12" by 8" high not including the two bentwood swing handles. The lid is secured by two metal hinges at the back and a metal hook and eye closure at the front. I'm not sure if the whitewash paint is original but it looks it - it's definitely old, not applied recently. The bottom of the basket has one broken slat, not all the way across so it still holds - see the closeup photo.

Small Wood Wall Cabinet Display Shelf For Miniatures This vintage wall cabinet shelf was an inexpensive dime store item from the 1960s or 1970s, meant to display small figurines or miniatures on the wall. It's 8-1/2 inches high by 7" wide and will hold items up to 2 inches high and 3 inches long/wide. There are three shelves divided into nine sections, the center three behind a clear acrylic "glass" door in the center. Two brass triangle hangers are attached to the upper back edge. The carved effect design is raised in high relief, depicting a flower - maybe a sunflower, maybe a poinsettia if you're using it at Christmas. The center is a walnut shaped pick and nutcracker holder. The attractive bowl is 8-1/4 inches diameter by 1-3/4" high and is in very good vintage condition with no chips.
