16421

Isabella Rogers 1913 Grapes Silverplate Pair Serving Spoons Two antique silverplated serving spoons with embossed raised grape clusters decoration in the Isabella pattern by Wm Rogers (RC Co. mark), first produced in 1913. The 6-1/2 inch spoon has a deep round bowl which is angled like a ladle. It's probably a gumbo or cream soup spoon, though I would think the bowl is a little large for the average size mouth at 2-1/4". The 6 inch spoon with embossed bowl is a sugar spoon. The spoons are polished and in very good condition with only minor use marks. The gumbo has a tiny spot of partial plate loss on the bottom where it rests on the tabletop, almost a given with 100-plus year old silverplate flatware.

Click for more detail...

16419

Sunbeam Electric Controlled Heat Saucepan Cooker This circa 1950 Sunbeam model SP-3 electric controlled heat 3 quart chrome saucepan disappeared from the market shortly after the company came out with their deep fryer cooker appliance in 1952. The new fryer was basically the saucepan with two short handles, a basket, and the heat control on the pot itself. You can deep fry in this appliance too, Sunbeam just didn't think to market it that way.

The pot is about 7 inches high on its four black Phenolic legs (not including the lid) and is 8-1/2" diameter. The heat control handle has a great Art Deco style red and black Bakelite arrow temperature dial. Suggested cooking times for various foods are printed on the handle, where there is also a working red power indicator light. The chrome finish is in good, clean condition with a few water spots from cleaning and some minor storage marks. The interior has a few shallow pitting marks that are smooth to the touch. The cord and original Bakelite plug are in good condition with no splits, cracks, or other issues. The saucepan heats up well and is fully functional.

Click for more detail...

16414

Little Squeegy Bug, 1945 Child's Book 1st Edition This heavy paper cover child's book is a scarce unstated first edition, first printing. It has a copyright date of 1945 with no publisher information - this first printing was self-published.

Little Squeegy Bug by Bill Martin is the tale of a little firefly, which was re-written by the author in 2001 with an updated and more politically correct but shorter story line (ie: removing mentions of the gun in the bumblebee's tail). The illustrations in this edition were done by Bernard Martin, the author's brother, and they are filled with old fashioned charm. The book measures 5-1/2 by 8-3/8 inches and is unpaginated (28 pages).

The condition of the book is near mint. It's obviously never been read, with all pages and saddle stitch binding crisp and tight. No thumb wear, creases, stains, or writing. The only issue is a faint smudge of old label glue on the cover in the shape of the top flap of an envelope (first photo, look closely near Squeegy's left side).

Circa: 1945
Country of Origin: US
Publisher: Self Published Bill Martin

Blue Fjord Wood & Sons England Ironstone Serving Platter This English Staffordshire ironstone oval serving platter is in the Blue Fjord dinnerware pattern by Wood & Sons - their version of Blue Onion. I can't find the exact production dates for the pattern, but based on the mark, it would have been made between 1954 and 1981.

The blue and creamy white transferware platter with swirl-scalloped rim measures 12-1/2 by 9-5/8 inches. It's in excellent condition with no damage, though when tilted toward strong light, you can see a couple of short, very shallow white utensil marks to the glaze. See my other listings for plates and bowls in this pattern.
