15618

Kewpies Royal Rudolstadt Baby Feeding Dish Rose O'Neill This circa 1915 antique porcelain baby feeding dish by Royal Rudolstadt features Rose O'Neill Wilson's lovable Kewpies frolicking in grass. The light green airbrushed dish is a combination of a bowl and high-rimmed plate, designed for babies and young toddlers. It measures 7-3/4 inches diameter by 1-1/2 inches high. It's in near pristine condition with no damage or paint/decal wear, just light wear to the gold rim line and a couple of short craze lines to the glaze on the underside (they are true craze lines, not hairlines or cracks). When viewed at an angle toward light, you can see a few tiny, shallow marks near the center from utensil use, nothing even approaching a scratch. The plate is marked on the bottom with the green Prussia crown B Royal Rudolstadt mark, the same but smaller mark impressed without wording, and "Copyrighted Rose O'Neill Wilson, Kewpie, Germany" stamped under glaze.

Circa: 1915

15809

Royal Bayreuth Bavaria Sunbonnet Babies Childs Plate An original issue 7-1/2 inch antique plate from the desirable Sunbonnet Babies series of porcelain dishes, based on Bertha Corbett Melcher's beloved characters. In this scene, Molly and May are performing their ironing chores.

The plate has no chips, cracks, hairlines, or fleabites, and the colors are bright and unfaded. There is some typical wear to the gold at the rim, and a couple of tiny spots of rub wear to the paint at the center (near the iron), probably from stacking. The blue Royal Bayreuth Bavaria mark on back dates from 1902 to around 1920.

There is all-over crazing to the glaze but it's not stained or discolored.

Crooksville China 1941 Raggedy Ann Baby Child's Feeding Dish This sweet child's or baby feeding plate was made by Crooksville China in 1941. It depicts the original Raggedy Ann and Andy riding the wrinkled knees camel. The bowl measures 8-3/4 inches diameter.

The center of the bowl has some wear to the graphics and the thin gold rim line is worn. There are no chips, flakes, stains, or crazing but there are some faint white utensil marks. The plate is marked underglaze in gold script "Raggedy Ann and Andy Ware by Crooksville, Copyright 1941 Johnny Gruelle Co." I'm including an old curved handle Rogers Bros silverplate feeding spoon to display with the dish. It's monogrammed with the initial R or possibly B.

Click for more detail...

10968

Royal Bayreuth Jack Horner Nursery Rhyme Baby Child Feeding Dish This early 1900s antique child's feeding plate or bowl was made in Bavaria Germany by Royal Bayreuth. They did a series of children's dishes with nursery rhyme characters - this one depicts Little Jack Horner. The verse is printed in a cartouche above the illustration of little Jack. There are Christmas wreaths on the wall and floor and the inner rim of the dish is bordered by a leaf and berry garland, possibly holly.

The baby dish has the typical high, nearly straight rim and heavy flat base to resist sliding and tipping. It measures 7-1/2" diameter by 1-1/2" deep. There are no chips, flakes, or hairlines and the decoration is in very good condition for being more than 100 years old, a couple of minor scratches as shown. The underside has the blue PT facing lions mark.

Click for more detail...

13049

Raggedy Ann Andy Childs Melamine Dinnerware Set Mint in Box This boxed child's Melamine plastic dinnerware feeding set consists of a plate, bowl, and cup or mug, each with a different scene of Raggedy Ann and Andy at play. The dishes were made in America by Oneida and were sold as Storybook Dinnerware premiums by General Mills Betty Crocker in the early 1970s. All four pieces are marked The Bobbs-Merrill Company Inc. and dated 1969.

The dishes are mint and unused, packed in the original box with original packing papers. Although mint and unused, the colors of the cup appear a little faded, this is just from age (almost every cup I've seen from this set has the same color fading problem). The box is intact but does have a little minor storage wear and age discoloration.

11633-2

1940s Donald Duck Pink Pottery Baby Feeding Dish by Hankscraft This charming divided childs feeding dish was made in the 1940s for Hankscraft, a company that specialized in baby or juvenile items and small electric appliances. It's pink and in the shape of Donald Duck. Donald's head pulls off so you can fill the bowl with hot water to keep baby's food warm. It measures 8-1/2 by 6-1/2 by about 2 inches deep (not including the head stopper).

Hankscraft contracted with several American pottery firms from the 1920s to 1940s to make their ceramic items - they did not produce them in-house. Red Wing Potteries was one of them. The cork lining around the stopper opening has some minor wear but is mostly intact. There are no chips, scratches, crazing, or other damage.

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item 3574: Bavarian Childs Baby Feeding Plate Naughty Pierrot Smoking Cigars

Click for more detail...

3574

Bavarian Childs Baby Feeding Plate Naughty Pierrot Smoking Cigars Early juvenile feeding dishes often had an educational or even disciplinary theme, sometimes stern, sometimes amusing. This Bavaria porcelain baby plate depicts a pair of young Pierrots trying to smoke cigars. Unfortunately there is wear to one of the faces, but it's obvious that the smoke is making one boy cough or feel ill, and the other seems to be trying to show him the proper technique (or possibly taunting the reluctant Pierrot). A box of cigars is spilling out on the bench beside them. The words Baby's Plate appear underneath the scene, but the words are badly faded. It's an unusual theme for a childs dish.

The bowl is 7-1/2" diameter with a straight sided 1" deep rim. It probably dates to the first decade of the 1900s. The china is hard paste, very white in color with a shiny glaze. The back is marked in green PM Bavaria inside a wreath with a crown on top. This is a mark of the Moschendorf porcelain factory. As you can see the bowl was much used and does have design wear. There is one small, thin chip, barely bigger than a flake, on the underside of the rim (not visible from the top when looking down though you would probably see it if you were eye level to the rim). There are no other chips, and no hairlines, cracks, or crazing.

Circa: Early 1900s

3605

Walt Disney 3 Pigs 1930s Divided Childs Feeding Plate This very scarce 1930s 3-section juvenile feeding plate can be seen on page 82 of the original edition of Stern's Guide to Disney Collectibles. It's just under 8" diameter and has decaled illustrations of two of the original Disney cartoon Three Little Pigs plus the Big Bad Wolf in each of the plate sections. Each design is signed with the likeness of Walt Disney's signature.

The plate was made by Salem China Company under their Patriot China mark. The back is marked S.C. Co. Patriot China, Made in America, Mfgd. by permission Walt Disney Enterprises. The heavy plate has no chips, flakes, or hairlines but it does have stained crazing and there is quite a bit of wear and fading to the largest decal, the fiddling pig at the lower center. The wolf and other pig decals have much less wear. The black spot on the back to the right of the mark appears to be an impressed number 8 with an overabundance of ink.

15483

Child's Nursery Rhyme Plate with Bonus Cup This Salem China child's nursery rhyme plate is from the 1940s. It features an illustration of a cow jumping over the moon as the proverbial dish runs away with a spoon. It was likely a retail promotional item, given as a gift with purchase of a baby crib or similar item from a furniture or department store.

The plate measures 7-1/8" and has a red line rim. There are two fleabite chips on the rim and some utensil scratches in the center. Included with the plate is an unmarked 3 inch pottery baby or child's mug from the 1920s -1930s. It has charming decals of Grace Drayton Dolly Dingle style children playing musical instruments on both sides. The cup has a chip on the lower edge of one side and is crazed.

Click for more detail...

3575

Chrome Porcelain 1930s Covered Baby Feeding Dish Mexican Theme This divided, 3-part childs warming bowl by Excello is chrome with a pottery insert, and it comes with a rare matching lid. The handles and lid finial are olive green Bakelite. This is a food warmer type bowl - it's designed to be filled with hot water to keep the baby's food warm, and the cover helps with that too. The dish is 8" diameter, 10-1/2" handle to handle, by 2" high to the rim (not including the lid).

In each of the divided sections is a different Southwestern scene - a boy wearing a sombrero with Mexican pottery, a girl in sombrero with a duck, and a Mexican village scene with cactus, palm tree, adobe buildings, a woman with a pot on her head, and a man with a burro. The cork stopper has a pink ceramic top and doesn't quite match - it may be a replacement. The dish dates to the 1930s and reflects the popular Mexicana or Mission Fiesta kitchen themes of the era.

The bowl has no chips or cracks but it is crazed, with staining to the craze lines on the left half of the dish. The chrome body and cover are shiny and clean, in excellent condition with no pitting or scratches, though there are a couple of very slight dings at the edges of the lid. The underside is marked Excello Chromium Made In U.S.A.
