Whimsical Nut Bowl - Carriage On Wheels 1880s From the era of opulence, from a time when proper serving was everything! May I present the nut bowl! This large & impressive silver plated nut bowl in a rare form. It is a carriage on wheels with a squirrel sitting on top eating a nut. I just love the whimsical nature of this piece & the beauty part of it -is that we all serve nuts for social gatherings, you can really use this! This nut carriage will certainly cause a lot of conversation; it actually rolls on the wheels. The condition is very good .A great unique useable item & a wonderful investment as well. Measuring 13 ½"Long including the handle 11 ¾" High including the squirrel 7" wide across the body 6 ¾" wide across the wheels.

Wonderful 2 volume set covered in black fine leather over hard boards, Gold title stamping on spine. There is so much information here it would take me week worth of reading to list all of the info contained in these 2 volumes. Each book with a engraving of Endicott.Vol I with a map of the settled area of Salem in 1760.Quill pen inscription of possibly the original owner of the book "J Wingate Thornton 1845"who was the President & Recording Secretary of the New England Historical & Genealogical Register in 1845.Another interesting thing about these volumes, Between the pages I found a receipt & letter from Goodspeeds book shop 18 Beacon Street Boston Mass Dated 1968,to Donald Felt ,who I will assume is a blood relative :That the shop has found these volumes that he requested, These volumes were sold to Donald Felt for $30.00 .This is a very impressive set, Everything you need to know about early Salem: its citizens, slavery, rivers, shipping,French Women Immigrents,Fines for Entertaining Strangers, so much incredible information, Books Measure 7 ½" x 4 ½" .The condition is really excellent, having only the slight yellowing of the pages throughout. Nautical Diorama, completely hand made .This is the Alabama; the setting is really a great one .The background is completely hand painted with other ships in the background. The details of the ship model are really very good, I love the smoke coming out of the stack, and it is actually made from cotton! This diorama is in very good condition, a few pieces of the ocean floor have some cracks & light separations ,but that’s to be expected from a folk art piece like this that is at least 100 years old. Click for more detail...
aa2889
Folk Art Doll Signed By Barbra Merry In the great state of Maine, here in Waldo County lives a long time celebrity of these parts! Her name is Barbara Merry & she has been famous for her work in the restoration & making of country hooked rugs. I heard about this famous Lady when I first moved here over thirty years ago, She was the go to person if you had a great hooked rug in need of repair. She did faithful restoration by unraveling old damaged rugs & using the old perfect color yarns to do repairs that were undetectable. I believe that Barbara Merry is still among us & is quite elderly. The Merry family is a large one with all of its member’s long time Maine Antique Dealers! Quite a Legacy. For the lover of country & primitive antiques, you’ll just adore this one of a kind completely hand made Folk Art Doll. Fresh from a Rockland Maine Estate. This doll has a crudely hand carved wood face, arms & upper body. The wood appears to be pine with a mellow surface patina. On the back of the head is signed in pen, Made by Barbara Merry. The facial features are all painted on the wood. The clothing made of various scraps of fabric is all stitched by hand; this doll is wearing a brown dress with colorful edge & a black jacket with old ecru color lace at sleeves & neck. Under the dress is a lacey slip & over that a tiny all over print cotton slip. A crocheted hat sits upon her head. All in this entire folksy doll is in good condition & as I look at this doll I can almost feel Barbara Merry making her with all of the loving creativity as a tribute & a salute to every woman! Measuring 18" Long.
