3684
LOUIS VUITTON VERY VINTAGE HANDBAG / PURSE Louis Vuitton leather handbag / purse, made in France. Definately of a good vintage age.

Measures approx 11 X 7 1/2 inches, not including the shoulder strap.

Made with classic Louis Vuitton logo in gold on the leather and with brown leather trim, stitched in gold-coloured thread. Leather embossed with Louis Vuitton Paris Made in France. Studs also have Louis Vuitton mark as does the zipper. Bag is ideal size for getting out and about and can hold everything you need without getting too heavy.

This handbag has some condition issues:1. the leather on the inside of the strap in particular is in poor condition with cracks and discolouring. THe outside/top of the strap is acceptable. Stitching is all there.
2. There is a small piece of the piping that has come away on the back of the bag. In general, the piping around the support of the bag should be cleaned.
3. There is no lining inside the bag.
Beyond these problems, the leather and stitching are in good condition.

3686
LOUIS C. TIFFANY FAVRILLE ART GLASS COMPOTE S Signed Louis C Tiffany Favrille Art Glass pedestal bowl / compote in iridescent glass. Made during the Art Nouveau period, early 1900's, USA.

Measurements: 6 1/4 inches high; bowl is 6 3/8 inches in diameter; base is 3 1/2 inches in diameter.

Classic favrille art glass. Colour is impossible to define as it changes from deep gold to blue, from orange to purple, depending on the way it is caught by the light. In general: Base tends to be more purple and deep orange/red; inside of bowl has definate blue tendency and outside of bowl tends to look silver/gold. Stem has green-gold-orange overtones.

Round, slightly rising base with a smaller base connecting to the stem. Stem is long and satiny - looks like the stem of an elegant flower. Bowl with the crackled golden/silvery tones leading to blues on the inside and with a wavy, curved top adds to the floral image.

Underside of base is signed with 1) round, embossed Tiffany logo "TIFFANY REGISTERED TRADE MARK FAVRILLE GLASSand 2) engraved writing in script: 1702 L. C. Tiffany Favrille.

Condition is very good. There are a couple of minute air bubbles under the base (see 'photos) and one more, possibly one mm long (approx 1/16th of an inch) that might be a tiny surface nick, also under the base - mentioned only for the sake of total accuracy.

Click for more detail...
3733
ANTIQUE 1700'S SNUFF BOX MINIATURE PORTRAIT S Antique Georgian snuff box with hand painted miniature portrait painting of a gentleman. Origin unknown. Date: circa 1770.

Round box is just under 3 inches in diameter and just over 1 inch high.

Old shell box with beautiful mottling and blond raised rim to lid. Condition of box is good, especially considering the age. Lid is less than perfect with a small open slit where a segment of the side has cracked and been reattached in an antique repair. The blond rim also has a gap caused by natural shrinkage.

The lid of the box has an exceptional handpainted miniature portrait of a gentleman. He appears to be middle-aged, which could be the effect of a high forehead and grey wig, indicating a respectable status and intelligence. The face is superbly painted with the fleshy cheeks and jowels, highly individual features shown in museum quality brushwork. The tilt of the head, slightly sideways and penetrating, direct stare, as well as the slightly open mouth - as though withholding a thought just formed from the observer make this an unusually personal depiction. A collarless brown jacket with buttons over a blue vest and white cravat convey a further solidity to the sitter. The miniature is further unusual in that it covers the whole lid.

The miniature is in very good condition.

A pair of chains comprised of similar openwork in gold and silver studded with lapis hang are suspended from the flower jewel. In turn, they hold links which suspend a wonderfully modelled vermeil walnut. Hinged at the back, it has a little button in front for opening it. walnut is approx 1 3/4 inches in length. Opening the walnut reveals a gilt tube with purple felt on top. This contains a tiny perfume bottle. The other side of the walnut appears to have lost a glass cover. WHen the metal frame is lifted, it reveals a small convex mirror and when that is removed there is a wonderful swan down powder puff in wonderful condition as it has been hidden and protected in the walnut for so many years. The walnut has engraved STERLING 925 on the inside.

Condition of the whole chatelaine and it's components is very good.
