No. 620: 8 balls Color No. 301 White/Multi or 2.5-ounce color of your choice (Note: multi/glitter, frost, or print colors come in 2.5-ounce balls; solids, heathers, sprinkles, or twist colors come in 3 oz. balls) Size J crochet hook OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE. GAUGE: 16 sts and 8 rows to 4" in double crochet using Size J crochet hook. TO INSURE PROPER SIZE, BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. "SPANISH" SQUARE (make 42) Ch 8, join with sl st to first ch to form ring. Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 16 sc into ring, sl st to first sc-16 sts. Do not turn at end of this or any foll rnds. Rnd 2: Ch 1, 1 sc in same sp as ch 1, [ch 7, skip 3 sc, 1 sc in next sc] 3 times, ch 7, skip 3 sts, sl st to first sc. Rnd 3: Sl st in next 3 ch, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc) 1 dc into same ch-7 sp, * work (ch 3, 2dc) into same sp, ch 3, work 2 dc tog as foll: yo and draw up lp in same ch-7 sp (3 lps on hook), yo and draw through first 2 lps on hook, yo and draw up lp in next ch-7 sp, yo and through first 2 lps on hook, yo and through rem 3 lps on hook, ch 3, 2 dc into same ch-7 sp; rep from * 3 times, omitting 2 dc at end of last rep, sl st to top of beg ch 3. Rnd 4: Sl st into next dc and ch-3 sp, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc into same ch-3 sp, *work (ch 3, 2 dc) into same sp, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp, 1 dc in between 2 dc worked tog, 3 dc into next ch-3 sp, ch 3, skip 2 dc, 2 dc into next ch-3 sp; rep from * 3 times, omitting 2 dc at end of last rep, sl st to top of beg ch 3. Rnd 5: Sl st into next dc and ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc into same ch-3 sp, *work (ch 3, 3 dc) into same sp, ch 5, skip (2 dc, ch 3, 1 dc) 1 dc into each of next 5 dc, ch 5, skip (1 dc, ch 3, 2 dc), 3 dc into next ch-3 sp; rep from * 3 times, omitting 3 dc at end of last rep, sl st to top of beg ch 3. Fasten off. FINISHING: Sew square tog to form rectangle 6 squares wide by 7 squares tall. Border: Rnd 1 Join yarn to corner ch-3 sp. Ch 3 and work evenly around in dc, working 3 dc in each corner ch-3 sp, 1 dc in each dc and 3 dc in each ch-5 sp. Join with sl st to top of beg ch 3. Do not turn work at end of this or any foll rnds. Rnd 2: Ch 5, *skip 2 dc, 1 dc in next dc, ch 2, skip 2 dc, 1 dc in ech of next 3 dc, ch 2; rep from * around, end sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch 5. Rnd 3: Ch 3 and work evenly around in dc, working 3 dc in each corner, 1 dc in each dc and 2 dc in each ch-2 sp. Rnd 4: Ch 1, 1 sc in next dc, *ch 3, skip 2 dc, 1 sc in next dc; rep from * to corner (adjusting as necessary), in corner work [ch 3, sc in next dc] twice; rep from * around, end sl st to first sc. Rnd 5: Sl st into first ch-3 sp, *ch 6, sl st to 4th ch from hook to form picot, ch 2, 1 sc into next ch-3 sp; rep from * around. Fasten off.
