MATERIALS
LION BRAND Fishermen’s Wool, Art. No. 150, (8 oz. skeins): 5 (5, 6, 6) skeins. • One pair each straight knitting needles in sizes 6 U.S. (4.25 mm) and 8 U.S. (6 U.K.) (5.00 mm) OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE.
• Circular needle 29" long in size 6.
• Cable needle.
• Stitch holders.
• 6 buttons, 3/4" diameter.

GAUGE
25 sts and 26 rows = 4" in fisherman pat with size 8 needles. TO INSURE PROPER SIZE, BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATIONS

ssk = slip, slip, knit: Sl 2 sts, pick up the 2 sl sts with left-hand needle, insert needle through back loop of both sts and work them off tog (= 1 dec).

T-2 = Twist 2: RS: Skip first st, k second st through front loop without allowing the worked st to sl off needle, k skipped st, let both sts sl off needle at the same time. WS: P 2.

C-6 = Cable 6: Row 1 (RS): K 6. Row 2 & all even rows: P 6. Row 3: Sl first 3 sts onto cable needle, hold in front, k 3, k 3 from cable needle. Rows 5 & 7: K 6. Row 8: P 6. Rep Rows 1-8 for C-6.

C-12 = Cable 12: Row 1 (RS): K 12. Row 2 & all even rows: P 12. Rows 3 & 9: Sl 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, k 3, k 3 from cable needle; sl next 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in front, k 3, k 3 from cable needle. Rows 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19 & 23: K 12. Rows 15 & 21: Sl 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in front, k 3, k 3 from cable needle; sl 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, k 3, k 3 from cable needle. Row 24: P 12. Rep Rows 1-24 for C-12.

BACK

With straight knitting needles size 8, cast on 134 (142, 150, 158) sts. 
Row 1 (WS):
K 1, *p 2, k 2; rep from * across, end k 1. 
Row 2:
K 1, *p 2, k 2; rep from * across, end k 1. Rep Rows 1 & 2, 4 more times. Rep Row 1 once more. Est Fisherman Pat: Row 1 (RS): K 1, (p 2, T-2) 1 (2, 3, 4) times, p 3, *T-2, p 3, C-12, p 3, T-2, p 2, T-2, p 3, T-2, p 1, C-6, p 1, T-2, p 3, T-2, p 2*, rep from * to * once more, T-2, p 3, C-12, p 3, T-2, p 3, (T-2, p 2) 1 (2, 3, 4) times, k 1. Cont in est pat until piece meas 6" from beg. Dec 1 st at each side inside first and last sts, then every 10 rows 3 (7, 9, 11) times more -- 126 (126, 130, 134) sts. Cont even in est pat until piece meas 18 (18, 18, 19)" from beg. 

Shape armholes:
Maintaining pat, BO 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows -- 114 (114, 118, 122) sts. Cont even one st pat until armholes meas 8 1/2 (9, 9 1/2, 10)". 

Shape shoulders:
Maintaining pat, BO first 39 (39, 40, 41) sts, place next 36 (36, 38, 40) sts onto a holder, BO rem 39 (39, 40, 41) sts.

RIGHT FRONT

With straight size 8 needles, cast on 71 (75, 79, 83) sts. 
Row 1 (WS):
P 2, *k 2, p 2; rep from * across, end k 1. 
Row 2:
K 1, *k 2, p 2; rep from * across, end k 2. Rep Rows 1 & 2, 4 more times. Est Fisherman Pat: Row 1 (RS): K 1, p 2, *T-2, p 1, C-6, p 1, T-2*, **p 3, T-2, p 2, T-2, p 3**, C-12, rep from ** to ** once, rep from * to * once, p 3, (T-2, p 2) 1 (2, 3, 4) times, k 1. Cont in est pat until piece meas 6" from beg. Dec 1 st inside last st on a RS row, then rep dec every 10 rows (always on a RS row) 3 (7, 9, 11) times more -- 67 (67, 69, 71) sts. Cont even in est pat until piece meas 17 (17, 17, 18)" from beg. 

Shape Front edge:
Maintaining pat, dec 1 st on left side of C-12 on next RS row, then every RS row 21 (21, 22, 23) times more; AT THE SAME TIME, when piece meas same as Back to armhole, BO 6 sts at armhole edge once. Work even in est pat on rem 39 (39, 40, 41) sts until piece meas same as Back to shoulder. BO rem sts.

LEFT FRONT

Work to correspond to Right Front, rev shaping and pat.

SLEEVES

With straight size 6 needles, cast on 64 sts. 
Row 1 (WS):
K 1, p 2, *k 2, p 2; rep from * across, end k 1.
Row 2: K 1, *k 2, p 2; rep from * across, end k 3. Rep Rows 1 & 2, 7 times more, then rep Row 1 once more. Change to straight knitting needles size 8. Est Fisherman Pat: Row 1 (RS): P 2, *T-2, p 1, C-6, p 1, T-2*, p 3, T-2, p 2, T-2, p 3, C-12, p 3, T-2, p 2, T-2, p 3; rep from * to * once, p 2. Cont in est pat for 6 rows, then inc 1 st inside first and last sts on next row, then every 6 rows 7 (7, 9, 11) times more, then every 4 rows 8 times working inc sts into (p 3, T-2, p 2, T-2) pat -- 96 (96, 100, 104) sts. Cont even in est pat until Sleeve meas 16 (16, 17, 17)" from beg. 

Shape cap:
Maintaining pat, BO 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st at each edge inside first and last sts ever other row 15 (15, 17, 19) times -- 56 sts rem. 

Next row:
K 1, k3tog twice, cont pat to last 7 sts, sl1-k2tog-psso, k3tog, k 1. 

Next row:
K 1, ssk, p 1, T-2, p2tog, cont pat to last 8 sts, p2tog, T-2, p 1, k2tog, p 1. 

Next row:
P 1, p2tog, (T-2, p2tog) twice, T-2, p 3, cont pat to last 13 sts, (T-2, p2tog) twice, T-2, p2tog, p 1. BO, working each set of T-2 as k2tog and dec 4 sts over C-12 panel while binding off. Note: Total length, 23 (23, 24, 24)".

FINISHING

Sew shoulder and side seams. Set in Sleeves. Sew Sleeve seams. Front Band: With RS facing, using circular needle size 6, join yarn at Right Front lower corner, pick up 1 st in every row along Right Front opening edge to shoulder, k sts from Back neck holder, then pick up 1 st in every row along Left Front opening edge. Work in k 2, p 2 rib for 3 rows, ending with a WS row. Place a marker for 6 buttonholes evenly spaced along Right Front band, with the first one 1" above lower edge and the last one 17 (17, 17, 18)" above lower edge. 

Buttonhole row (RS):
*Work in est rib to next marker ending with k 2, (p 1, k2tog, yo twice, ssk, p 1 = buttonhole)*; rep from * to * across all markers, cont in est rib to end of row. 

Next row:
Work in est rib working p 2 in each (yo twice). Cont in est ribbing for 2 rows more. Bind off in ribbing. Sew on buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
