SIZE: Directions are for size Small (Medium, Large, X-Large). Finished bust: 40 (44, 48, 52)". MATERIALS: LION BRAND Homespun (Art. No. 790), 6 oz. skeins: 5 (5, 6, 7) skeins in variegated color. Knitting needles size 10 OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE. Seven 3/4" buttons. GAUGE: 14 sts = 4" in broken rib on size 10 needles. TO INSURE PROPER SIZE, BE SURE TO CORRECT YOUR GAUGE. Broken Rib Pat: NOTE: 1. On joining new skein in variegated colors: Due to the long color sections, it will look best to join the new end of yarn in the same color with which knitting ended. Pull out (and wind into a ball) from the new skein until you get to the same part of the color sequence that you ended in. Save that ball to use in another part of the sweater. Extra yarn has been allowed in the material quantities to allow for matching colors. No effort was made to match colors at fronts or side seams, etc. 2. For Seams: Homespun is somewhat slippery, so leave tails a bit longer than usual, about 3" for weaving in. BACK: Cast on 71 (77, 85, 91) sts. LEFT FRONT: Cast on 37 (41, 45, 49) sts. Work as for back until front measures 17 1/2 (19, 20 1/2, 22)" from beg, ending with a RS row. Shape neck: Bind off 7 sts at beg of next WS row. Work 1 row. Bind off 0 (3, 5, 7) sts at neck edge. Bind off all sts. Mark placement of buttons on left front, with bottom one 1/2" from lower edge, top one 1/2" from neck edge and evenly space 5 buttons between. RIGHT FRONT: Work as for left front, reversing shaping. Work buttonholes to correspond with marked button placements as foll: On RS row, k 1, p 1, k 1, yo, k2tog, work in pat to end of row. SLEEVES: Cast on 31 (33, 35, 37) sts. Work 3 rows ribbing as for back. Work even, if necessary, until sleeve measures 17 1/2 (18, 18, 18 1/2)" or desired length. Bind off all sts. FINISHING: Sew shoulder seams. Sew sleeves to front and back
between armhole markers. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew buttons opposite
