Oriental Rugs: An Illustrated Lexicon Of Motifs, Materials, And Origins By: Peter F. Stone
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. This monumental reference work--long awaited by collectors and scholars--fills an important gap in the available literature on oriental rugs. Lavishly illustrated with over 1000 photographs and drawings, it offers clear and precise definitions for the rug and textile terms in use across a broad swath of the globe--from Morocco to Turkey, Persia, the Caucasus region, Central Asia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and China. Covering priceless museum-quality rug traditions as well as modern centers of production, Oriental Rugs draws on classical scholarship as well as current terminology in use among producers and traders in these areas today. It focuses primarily on the rich hand-knotting and hand-weaving traditions of the Near East and Central Asia, but also includes some examples of Scandinavian and Native American weavings. Rugs are receiving ever-increasing attention and recognition in the field of art history. Tribal weavings especially have become a focus for new research, and Oriental Rugsprovides a new understanding of many distinctive traditions that were previously understudied, such as the weavings of southwest Persia, Baluchistan and Kurdistan. A concise reference, this volume is a must-have for serious collectors and scholars.
The Book Of Fine Linen By: Francoise De Bonneville
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. A visual tribute to the elegant world of heirloom household fabrics, from the white linen cloth of ancient Egypt to the rainbow-hued coverlets of today. This lively text introduces heirloom household fabrics, their use, manufacture, embellishments, and care, as well as the infinite variety of fibers and materials used. The author explains how they serve as both unusually revealing testaments of the history of daily life and quintessential examples of the weaver's craft, often so magnificently decorated that they rival works of art. The text is supplemented by a rich array of paintings, archival photographs, vintage advertisements, and original commissioned photography from collections, private homes, and workshops of the leading contemporary manufacturers. A comprehensive glossary of technical terms, bibliography, and index complete the book.

Women's Work: Embroidery In Colonial Boston By: Pamela A. Parmal
Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Charming us with their whimsy and conjuring a warm domesticity, embroideries from the colonial era also astonish us with the high prices they bring at art auctions. A single work could take years to make, its materials could come from the other side of the world and its imagery could reflect its maker's deepest beliefs and her family's highest aspirations. Colonial women kept these accomplished works with them throughout their lives, proudly displayed them in their homes, and passed them down as family heirlooms. Embroidery in Colonial Boston tells the stories of six women and how needlework shaped their lives in the colonies' most important port city. From decidedly domestic origins, their embroideries soon became an economic force that promoted the silk trade and allowed entrepreneurial women and men to profit from selling supplies, drawing patterns and teaching young girls interested in this mode of expression. At once a historical overview, group biography and richly illustrated art book, this publication gives long deserved attention to a unique facet of American visual culture and women's history.

Collector Bookstore is a retailer of new books located in Leavenworth, Kansas. We specialize in price guides and reference books for the antiques and collectibles industry. Collecting handkerchiefs is one of the few affordable areas of collecting in which the collectible also takes up very little space. Most people have preconceived notions of what hankies are - white cotton or linen square, decorated with a bit of lace or embroidery - and are surprised and delighted with what they see in this book - color, pattern, and humor. What's more, these hankies are a social history of their time, the 1940s and 1950s. With World War II, women became Rosie the Riveters, making their own money and enjoying their independence. The hankies in Handkerchiefs: A Collector's Guide, Volume 2, reflect this new equality with their bright, optimistic colors and subjects. New social conventions, such as road trips, barbecues, and the cocktail hour, which became the fabric of America in the decade after the war, were chronicled in handkerchiefs. This book brings out the collector in anyone who inherited hankies from a mother or grandmother, or who enjoys good design. There are no repeats from Volume 1 in the more than 600 new examples shown.

This doily is approximately 11 inches across in an off white or cream color. I believe the center fabric is a fine linen, and the lace looks like it's handmade. I don't think it's crochet let. I tried to research this, and it looks to me to be similar to Venetian Point Plat Coralline. This needs to be pressed. No stains or tears.
Set of six hand crocheted 5 inch doilies or coasters. They were probably started to hook together to create a larger piece, but these make great coasters! The are laundered, but need to be pressed. Each is about 5 inches across, but they are not perfectly matched - very slight variations to each. Off white color.

Somewhere out there, is a tablecloth missing a napkin. This pretty printed cotton napkin looks like a VERA design to me, but I don't see a signature. It is in perfect condition with no stains and measures 16 7/8ths by 17 inches.

Vintage table runner or dresser scarf with a lacy pattern, but I wouldn't categorize it as a lace . I think of lace is being stiff, and this is anything but - it has a very soft drape to it. It may be referred to as Quaker lace but I am not a textile expert. There are small loops every inch or so all the way around the runner. I believe these are used to block the runner when laundered, or they could just be decorative. It's an off white color and has no damage, pulls or stains. It measures about 50 inches long and about 12 inches wide. It is freshly laundered and hung to air dry, but I did not block it or press it.
Vintage almost white tablecloth with multiple cut work and drawn work areas, and I believe the edging is Punto Quadro. I am not a textile expert, but I believe these are the correct terms to describe the beautiful work on this table linen. It measures 33 inches square. It has been freshly laundered and air dried but not pressed. I believe it is linen. I examined it thoroughly and there is only one small spot (visible in the 7th picture) that I could not see until I viewed the closeup image - that is how small it is to the naked eye. There are a couple of small threads that are broken in some of the cutwork, but nothing that would cause you to not want to use and display this table cloth. I've included many images of the detail for your examination.
Vintage round crochet doily in off white with pansy trim. There is a small edging of a very pale green that connects the alternating purple hued and orange hued pansy edging. About 10.5 inches across, but may be a little larger when pressed. I checked this thoroughly and I do not see any missing or disconnected threads, and there are no stains. The colors are very lovely together.
This neat tablecloth is in MINT condition with bright yellow and gray flowers on an creamy white background. It is clean with no holes, rips or stains and measures 35 inches square. I would hazard a guess that it is 100 percent cotton.
This very neat vintage card table size tablecover and napkin set is ready for you to embroider and finish. It has some age on it but the original instructions are still there . One corner is discolored but I would bet after finishing and washing it would look much better. The table cloth measures 42 inches square (before hemming) and even has four napkins with fabric for appliques.
This is one very cool textile. It is a barkcloth mantle or table - dresser scarf in a big floral print with fringe. The scarf is in overall good condition with three very tiny spots and no holes or rips. It measures 46 inches long (without the fringe) and 12 inches wide.
These fun 10 inch by 8 inch quilt blocks are in excellent condition and ready to finish and put together for a lovely little nursery quilt. 6 of the blocks are completely embroidered. One is started and one is unstarted. The work on them is very nice and it shouldn't be too hard to match the colors.
This is a pretty potholder but not my colors. It was given to me many years ago by a friend and I just never wanted to part with it. The potholder is a nice heavy cotton fabric with batting and measures 8 inches in diameter. It is new, never used.
