This Zippo lighter with a black ship in blue water with red lettering is marked on the front: U.S.S.Richard L.Page / FFG-5 and on the back it has a yellow and blue crest and the name of the ship again. As of January 1974, she continues operations in the Mediterranean. George G. Blaisdell founded Zippo Manufacturing Company in 1932, and produced the first Zippo lighter in early 1933, being inspired by an Austrian cigarette lighter of similar design. It got its name because Blaisdell liked the sound of the word zipper and zippo sounded more modern. On March 3, 1936, patent was granted for the Zippo lighter. Zippo lighters became popular in the United States military, especially during World War II - when, as the company's Web site says, Zippo ceased production of lighters for consumer markets and dedicated all manufacturing to the U.S. military. The Zippo at that time was made of brass, but as this commodity was unobtainable due to the war, Zippo used steel during the war years. The Zippo mark on the bottom dates this lighter to 1976 and in very good condition, with minor scratches and wear which I have shown in my pictures and it measures 2 1/4 inches tall, 1 1/8 inches wide and 3/8 inch narrow. This vintage silvertone cigarette lighter with 4 aces on the front in a green enameled oval sphere is unmarked. In very good but used condition it measures 2 1/4 inches tall, 1 1/2 inches wide and 5/8 inch narrow. An addition to any Vintage Lighter, Casino or Playing Card Collection Collection. Zippo 'McDonnell Douglas' slim lighter in very good condition but does show some age wear. On the front it has 'McDonnell Douglas' with their symbol, back is plain. Bottom has 'Zippo' with age symbols. Lighter is silver in color but photos show darker. The inside of the box states: FIREBIRD SOLID STATE NO FLINT NO MOVING PARTS WHISPER ACTION Division of Colibri It features a POLISHED GOLD TONE METAL CASE and is very sophisticated looking. It comes in the orginal box with the original instructions and an order form for reordering COLIBRI BUTANE REFILLS, BATTERIES, AND FLINTS(even thought this lighter does not need flints). The CONDITION of the LIGHTER is USED. There is engraving on the back that reads HAPPY 60TH LOVE LYNN & DON.
