Manufacturer: Kitchen Gadget Manufacturing Company
Neat very old and well used kitchen grater or shredder not often seen in this style. Marked "Hi-Speed Safety Grater", made by "Kitchen Gadget Mfg. Co. (Manufacturing Company)" with a 1944 U.S. Design Patent Number ("U.S. Pat. D137,796, Other Pat. Pend."). This is a one piece metal grater (likely tin or steel, it has a lot of rust on it) which is curved at the top to help keep it still when grating on the top of a bowl. There are 3 separate grating style holes incorporated in vertical sections on this one piece so that it could be used with a range of cheeses, vegetables, spices, etc. Given the 1944 design patent date, condition and the fact that this came out of an older home, we believe it likely dates to the 1940s.

This vintage grater is largely rectangular in shape with diagonal corners. It measures 8 1/4 inches long by about 6 3/8 wide. Due to the curved upper part, it sits about 7/8 inch high.

While this old kitchen utensil has no breaks, cracks or pieces missing, it shows a lot of rusting on top of its dark gray coloring or tarnishing. The surface of this grater is not evenly colored, with lighter and darker gray spots/areas, lots of surface wear, spotting, discolorations, etc. There is the slightest edge dent on the upper left (not bad at all but there). The central grating hole area uses a raised pointed metal grating and a few of these pointed tips are gone so you can see tiny metal holes there (frankly, we've not seen this type of pointed grating prior and that may be why). We've provided 7 images, please use the zoom feature to examine closely. The camera lighting "brightens up" the look of this piece; in person it looks darker in color and the rust is more visible than in the images. The rusting makes it very hard to read some of the impressed words and numbers on this piece so we've shot some of the images both with and without the camera lighting to try and show them better (you still can't read them all, but the name, words and numbers are there).

A well used kitchen collectible which has a rustic, shabby sheek type charm. Since this grater is not often seen, it would still make a great addition to any collection of shredders, graters or kitchen collectibles, kitchen utensils, kitchen implements, cooking items, cooking tools, etc. Easy to hang on the wall of your kitchen given the multiple grating holes.

Please note that we have many other kitchen graters and other kitchen items listed separately for sale. If you wish to purchase more than one, please e-mail us before placing the order since the shipping information has been inputted for a purchase of just one and will not calculate the savings you would get when purchasing more than one shipped together in the same package (we will need to handle this for you).
