Vintage Sewing

Sewing thimbles set of three in wonderful condition. These collectible thimbles are lovely with the two porcelain ones with the pretty flower designs are both marked bone china made in England and the third is made of metal with an emblem marked The Balsams, Dixville Notchl, N.Y. The two porcelain are 1 inch high and the metal is 3/4 inch high. A great set as found.

This chatelaine belt is handmade. Metal rings that are 7/8 in diameter are crocheted with soft yellow embroidery thread. A mint green ribbon is looped through the rings making a 36 belt, which was tied in a bow at the waste leaving part of it hanging which held the accessories. The beautiful sterling silver thimble holder is reticulated, or openwork, in a floral pattern. The hallmark, with a WC and arrow going through, is that of the George Webster Co. of Attleboro, Mass. It dates to the early 1900s. It has a chatelaine loop which was one of the items that would normally hang from the belt. It is monogrammed ML and is apparent it was well used for pins. There is also a hand crocheted piece of wool that was used for needles, and a darling crocheted thimble holder with the original thimble. It is a Simons Bro. Co, with the script S inside a shield on the inside top. Outside it reads Sterling, and is a size 8. It has a very unusual Celtic design around the bottom that is hand stamped. The company was in business and registered in 1842. I brought this chatelaine along to one of the antique shows we do and it received a lot of attention from my jewelry customers. One lady told me she knows a shop in her home town that had a couple of these priced $500 and over, so there must be some out there on the market. Condition: Very good; Being over 100 years old the ribbon is fragile, but not dry rotted, and in my opinion should to be replaced. If you chose to do so, it is a very easy fix by the looks of it; just a matter of getting a good match. None of the Sterling pieces have been polished, as it is my custom to leave that to the new owner since once the patina is gone, you'll need to wait another 100 years to get it back.

Unknown as to the purpose of this old bottle made by Owen's. It comes with the original lid that is a shaker lid with hole in the shape of a triangle. Stands 6 ½ tall by 1 1/8 across.

Great old sewing items here. We have the old plastic woven sewing basket done in red and white and in excellent conjdition. Also I have a darling spool holder shaped like a little girl. Her hat doubles as a pin holder. She was made in Taiwan. Also there is a small shoe shaped pin holder that is made in Japan and silver plated. All items are in excellent condition.

This woven reed sewing box has a self hinged cover. Measures 11 in. by 9 in. 5 in. tall. I find no damage. In very good, usable, displayable condition. The hinged cover has a woven reed type hinge. Lid fits snugly.

Complete Greist Magic Key buttonholer with original box. This sewing machine attachment includes the buttonholer and five Magic Keys to make various size buttonholes, feed cover plate, instruction booklet, anchor screw, and screwdriver. The bottom of the buttonholer is stamped: US Patent No. 2482607 and 2536620 or 2547925. The Magic Key sizes cover buttonhole lengths 5/16, 5/8, 13/16, and 1-1/16 inches for regular buttonholes and a key for a 1-1/16 inch keyhole buttonhole for suits and coats. (The 5/16 inch key is already in the attachment..) This buttonholer has not been tested but appears to be intact. Very Good condition.

These two interesting bisque china thimbles come from Avon circa 1982. They are in Excellent condition and are from the Silhouette collection. The larger Victorian lady stands 2 1/4 inches high. A scissor or shears marked Simmon's Keen Kutter. In good condition but does need a polishing. Measures 8 in. long overall.

This cut out but complete pattern is a size 16 with bust 34 and Hip 37. It is complete (cut out) but very fragile. I would say it is more a collectible than a usable pattern unless you are a daring sort or could transfer it to a sturdier pattern paper. It comes from Advance circa 1940s. Sold as found, size 10, has a couple of tiny holes, definitely was used, shows wear, no sterling silver mark, though I do believe it is silver. Approx. 7/8 tall, mid 1900s, estate piece, sold unpolished, as found, priced accordingly, fair vintage condition.

Matchbook style sewing kit from the Hoteles Fiesta Americana in Vallarta. It contains Threads, sewing needle, safety pin, hook & eye, common pins and a button. This has never been used, but does have some slight discoloration from age and some boxing long the edges. Closed this is approximately 2.12 inches x 1.93 inches and opens and closes just like a regular matchbook.
