Cow's hoof pin cushion, circa late 1800s. Top has a heart shape in metal pins with collars. The brown velvet is a replacement, and rather coming away at the sides. Underneath is the original red velvet, rather age weary, but personally I think nicer than the brown. The pins would pull out and be reinstated back to the original covering. I'd do this, but I'm selling this on consignment, and the owner may not like it being fiddled with - however, the next owner could choose which cover is best. Whole pincushion measures 7.2 cm high by 11.2 cm deep by 8.4 cm wide (2.13/16 inch by 4.7/16 inch by 3.5/16 inch). It has a wire loop at the back, so could be hung against a wall.

Six old livery buttons - worn by servants on their livery, and bearing the crest of the household (Lion Rampant over bar in this case). Fronts are silver plate, and the rear of the buttons are coppery looking. They are stamped with the maker's name: Nortzell . Buttons are 16 mm diameter (11/16 inch) and have loop backs. We have 6 larger identical buttons for sale elsewhere in this category. Excellent condition. These buttons came out with one of the first Wanganui families here in New Zealand, who intended to recruit household servants from amongst the local population. However, the Maoris turned out to be not at all servile, in fact outright very against the notion, and so they were never used.
Three celluloid-fronted man's buttons, with photos of women on them . And I don't think they're his mum and his sisters either. These must have been the buttons of a single lad-about-town in the Edwardian period, circa 1901-1910. Each measures 13 mm diameter (1/2 inch). The backs are gilded metal with loop. Excellent condition.

This is an antique mahogany or treen needlecase or needle holder made 1920-1930s in England. The needle case measures 5 inches long by .75 inch in diameter with a friction fit lid. There are 5 various old needles in it that were in it when I got it in England which I have left inside. The needlecase is in very good ++ condition. There is one wood chip where the lid comes off. On the body is a natural imperfection in the wood which has lovely patina testifying to it's being an original feature of the wood. The needle holder is actually a much darker mahogany than shows up in the photos. A nice piece of treen and sewing memorabilia as well as useful.
English Rug Tool Vintage Browns Patent Wood Handle
This is an interesting vintage tool I picked up in Glastonbury, England, a city famous for it's association with the legend of King Arthur. I think it is a rug making tool but I am no expert. Quite a neat piece and in very good ++ condition except for a bit of plating loss on the business end from use!
A Victorian period tapestry - late 19th century. The subject is large roses, surrounded by a border of leaves. Possibly made to be a stool seat or table screen panel. The roses are given texture by using finer and coarser stitches and wool. Generally, the pattern is worked in thicker wool, and the background in fine. There is a part of the black border where for some reason brown has been used. Oval panel measures 42 cm by 32 cm (16.1/2 inches by 12.1/2 inches). The whole, frames measures 66 cm by 52 cm (26 inches by 20.1/2 inches). Very good condition overall - possibly some fading to roses colour. Beige mount, gold frame.

This aluminum darner measures 3 X 4 inches and is in excellent condition. I'm guessing, from the way it is shaped, that it was used to darn knees of trousers and elbows of shirts.
