A souvenir of the Cathedral at Reims, France, and a most impressive piece of intaglio cut glass with detail that is amazing. One can see right through the doors and arches at every tiny line. It was made as an ashtray, but I can't imagine anyone putting their old stogy out in this beauty ... seems almost sacrilegious. The piece measures 5 1/4" long by 4 1/2 " wide and the sides slopes 1" from the top to the base. The base is ground and polished. There is a little roughness at one of the base corners and it would appear 2" of one of the edges has been lightly re-ground and polished. Despite this, the piece is in overall excellent condition. Hard to date this piece, but from the look of the color, we would estimate it to be rom the 1930's or 40's. It is marked in the glass 'R C DEPOSE' . This piece displays beautifully. |
