Manufacturer: Wedgwood
Fabulous set of 6 vintage Wedgwood Cream soups with underplates. Wish I knew the name of this gorgeous gold and yellow pattern. The florals look like Apple Blossom or Dogwood, so perhaps this is the name. Highly decorated as befits the late 1800's as indicated by the Portland Vase mark. Pieces are also impressed WEDGWOOD with an * underneath. (NOT MARKED MADE IN ENGLAND AS ARE MORE MODERN PIECES). Pieces are hand signed with Y4755 and what looks like a check mark, or maybe a "V". The china pattern itself is delicately scalloped at the edges as well as the base and dainty ribbing gives the pieces extra texture. The cups are also decorated on the outside with very finely painted single blossoms. The coloring is interesting as well, as the pieces radiate out from a china white into a pale, creamy yellow at the rims. The handles give the appearance of twigs or branches, not just plain...indeed, there is nothing just plain about these soups at all. |
