American Made in the U.S.A. Old Sleepy Eye Pitcher, by Western Stoneware Company from 1906 through 1937.
White Pottery (now turned a cream color), decorated with a Blue raised profile of Sioux Indian Chief Sleepy Eye (Ish-Tak-Ha-Ba) (1780 to 1860) wearing a War Bonnet, Plus Teepees and Trees. Blue Handle includes a Indian Head.
Made as advertising, promotional pieces, and premiums for the Sleepy Eye Milling Co. of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.
Measures about 8 3/4 inches H X 7 inches W. Holds 90 oz.
Used. Exterior has overall crazyin, some of which is discolored. Has a crows foot crack above the trees to the left of the Indian Chief. 1/4" base chip is under glaze, plus one pin head sized chip at base under handle which does not show. Interior has considerable crazing and discoloration. |
