Additional background information:
Bokara, or Bukhara, is a city in Uzbekistan and the customary center of commerce for Turkmen tribal carpets. The Bokara rug style is also known as Saryk Turkmen. The pattern associated with these rugs is comprised of periodic rows of geometric motifs, making up what is sometimes called an elephant track, within a typically red background. Turkish or Persian knots can be used in their construction depending on the quality. Recently woven Bokaras are most often made in Pakistan.
