Black Americana Negro African American Negro: Shake That Thing - Coon Dancer Music 1926. From the age of the blackface minstrel show, this is the cover and a remaining page of sheet music for Shake That Thing by Papa Charlie Jackson. It features Bernie Schultz and his Crescent Orchestra in photo on front with a faint blue Sample Copy stamped above it; the graphic illustration By Starmer is what used to be called a Coon Dancer in top hat with cane, Tux Spatz & Gloves & Diamond Pin with a TINY old coon dancer with white beard, a cast on his leg, and crutches beneath him who did a little too much 'shakin' that thing...'. I t measures 12 x 9 inches and has corner and margin tears to the cover as you see, some creasing, etc. and looks older than the copyright of 1926. Only one additional page of the music is present, with musical notation and lyrics to 7 verses: Ain't no Charleston, ain't no Pigeon Wing, all you got to do is Shake That Thing! The last page and back cover, they are long gone. Interesting old piece of historical Black Americana. Lots more not yet on the website In This Genre To Come... Don't see it? Ask Us. We Do not intend to offend any individual or community in offering this original historical item. It is sold for educational and documentary purposes only; we do not condone or encourage any racial or ethnic stereotyping or prejudice. We do agree with the need for documenting this to verify it occurred & to remind us that it should NOT happen again in This Wonderful Country of Ours. Blessed Holidays.
