Civil War Baby Mantelet Coat Cape Cream with Lace. This outstanding Mantelet Coat Cape was purchased at 1830's, five generation, Vermont Farmhouse and Carriage Barn auction in Milton, Vermont, by Duane Merrill and Co Auctioneers & Appraisers. The home Descending directly from Vermont Civil War Veteran, Henry O. Clark. What a fabulous piece of History.
This lovely Mantelet Coat Cape is made of a type of hand woven flannel and wool type blend fabric adorned with tatted and crochet lace. As seen, this item has some spots and the lace needs restoration. Selling as found. No major tears or holes, mostly loose stitches in the lace as seen. No major holes nor tear on the outside of the coat nor attached cape, but the lining has some sheering of the fabric on the inside at the shoulder area. If you need a picture, please contact me. The remainder of lining is wonderful.
Measurements taken laid flat. The top Cape drapes from back top center at neck to bottom hem 18 3/4 inch; The tatted crochet lace trim is 5 inch wide and drapes additional 3 1/4 inch.
The bottom Cape drapes from back neck center to bottom hem 30 inch. The tatted crochet lace trim is 5 inch wide and drapes additional 3 1/4 inch; Sleeves under arm to cuff 5 inch; Shoulder to cuff 6 3/4 inch.
