The enclosed certificate partially reads: This 24 K Gold-plated United States Capitol ornament, the fifth in a series, is a scene from the so-called Rogers Doors at the eastern entrance of the Rotunda. These bronze doors portray important events in the life of Christopher Columbus. The scene on this ornament was taken form the Tympanum which surmounts the double doors and is entitled, The Landing of Columbus in the New World. It depicts what many historians believe was Columbus' first landfall, October 12, 1942, at Guanahani, Watling Island, called San Salvador by Columbus.
