War Department
Adjutant General's Office
Washington, D.C., December 1, 1864

Sir:

I have the honor to enclose herewith ten blanks for Army Register (volunteer force) for the year ending January 1, 1865, and am instructed to direct you to fill four of them up as soon as practicable (in accordance with the notes contained on them) after the 1st day of January, 1865, and forward them to this office; it is desired to have the Register completed as early as possible.

On account of the many errors occurring in the Register for 1863 as sent in, it has not been possible to complete it yet. It is desired to have the one for the 1st of January, 1865, as correct as possible; to avoid delay, no pains should be spared to accomplish this object.

To distant stations duplicate packages will be sent; and it is requested that a second set of Registers for such commands be forwarded by a different mail from the first, to insure their reaching this office.

Very respectfully,
Your obedient servant,
SAMUEL BRECK
Assistant Adjutant General

Commanding Officer
4th Mass. Battery
