Very rare Porcelain Ink Well believed to date somewhere around the very early (1810) to mid 1800's era. Ink Well is directly from a Pennsylvania estate. There's no markings on this piece thus I'm unable to identify the maker, however, I'm sure those of you who collect or deal in early Ink Wells or Fountain Pens would know. Around the Ink Well is what I'm calling mythological designs. Shows a pair of Serpents with what appears to be human heads, a Woman outstretched in mid air and a Bird almost looking like an Ostrich. Also present are some smaller designs. Do not know if these designs have any symbolic meaning. As shown in the photos, there is some wear to porcelain both inside and outside as well as around the edges, however, keep in mind the age of this piece. The Figures and designs around the outside appear to be hand painted. Diameter of the Ink Well across the top is almost 4". Other then the wear to the Porcelain I do not notice any other damage to this piece. My last photo provided showing the feathers gives you a sense of how this Ink Well would have looked years ago when in use. Just a super early and scarce piece that I'm sure would make an outstanding addition to any Vintage Ink Well or Fountain Pen collection. Buyer to pay shipping & insurance.
