Avis Yuni Antiques & Collectibles

Circa: 1920's-early 1930's
Manufacturer: KPM China
Very pretty vintage double handled bouillon cup and saucer made by KPM China in Germany in their Kingsly pattern.

We purchased a partial set of this attractive KPM Kingsly china containing several types of pieces. We have 4 of these bouillon cup & saucer sets, all matching (the images are of one of these sets). We've listed each cup & saucer set as being sold separately and the price shown is for one set, in case people want just one set to add to their cup & saucer collection. We would be pleased to sell you more than one cup & saucer set, please see note at the bottom of this listing.

All pieces are marked on the underside bases with the crown & KPM in green and "Germany" in either green or red. On most of the pieces (all but one cup), the Kingsly pattern name appears in script in red. Under this in red on 6 of the pieces (4 saucers & 2 cups) is "U.S. Patent No. 77,445". On one cup, this instead says in red "U.S. Patent applied for". With the last cup, neither statement appears.

This patent number dates to 1929. The pieces stating the patent was applied for or having no statement were made prior to 1929 (and/or prior to KPM applying for the design patent). The former owner told us a relative had gotten the entire set pre WW II (World War II). All of this combined with the use of Germany as the country name (which would be prior to and during WW2), causes us to believe these pieces were made ca. 1920's - 1930's (but have shown the patent date in the listing title).

White base porcelain (these pieces are translucent) or bone china. These are all decorated with a pale yellow background color, multi-color flowers (which looks to include tulips, chrysanthemums, etc., with lots of green leaves), a scroll & geometric shaped banding, green & navy blue trim near the outer edge including a dot pattern & gold trim. The main decoration appears on the topside of the saucer and the interior of the cup. The outside of the double handled cup has a scroll & geometric band as well as a nicely curved handle on two sides, painted gold. The design looks to be largely a transfer, with probably hand painting for the gold and perhaps for some of the other decorative colors, we're not sure.

Saucer has a slightly lowered or indented section in the middle for seating the cup (which has the scroll & geometric band trim and a large floral grouping in the center), then smoothly curves upwards towards the edge, measuring about 5 7/8 inches diameter and sitting about 7/8 inch in height. The cup is basically round, curving outward and upward from the base, with a top opening diameter of about 3 15/16 inches and a total width to the outside of the two handles of about 5 1/4 inches. The cup sits about 2 1/16 inches in height. The two older pieces together sit about 2 1/4 inches total height.

We've provided 8 images to show one set from varied angles, including one of the marks. The camera light creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely. Together these two older pieces weigh a little over 8 1/2 ounces unpacked.

Wonderful overall vintage condition with no major chips, cracks, crazing, or utensil marks or anything unexpected for pieces which were used, but there is some age and use wear. The condition varies slightly by piece/set, but all are similar. There are small light scratches mainly on the outside of the cup and underside of the saucer, but really nothing bad at all and you have to look closely at an angle in bright light to see these. There is gold wear which you can see on the two cup handles which were painted all-over gold, this varies widely from a good bit of gold wear to just dots, small lines, and rubbed/line spots, varying from 50-80%+ of the gold remaining on the handles. However the gold line edge trim on the cup and saucer rims look terrific with only slight touches of wear, having 90-95%+ of the gold remaining there (on a few pieces there may be a small spot where the gold is discolored). The floral and scroll/geometric band coloring looks bright overall, but there are some tiny touches of wear but nothing bad with 95% of the overall colors still there (on some saucers there is some wear to the band lines encircling where the cup sits, likely due to repeated placement of the cup on top). There are some pin/pit and raised dots in the porcelain, some stray paint/transfer dots/spots, some light brown and dark pin dots, on some saucers some very tiny flakes on the underside base rim on which it sits, and perhaps some other slight minor age wear.

A great displayable and usable bouillon cup & saucer set from this neat KPM Kingsly china pattern.

Please Note: If you are interested in more than one cup & saucer or other items, please contact us before inputting the order. We'd be pleased to combine multiple items for shipment in one box, if possible, to save you on postage.
