Mayer's Market

Circa: 1953
Condition: As New
Publisher: Mayer's North Street Food Market
Edition: 1953

When things were slow around Mayer's North Street Market, these two would grab an old Rath Lard tin for their bait and go 'Fishing For Business,' according to the legend on the photo attached to this 1953 calendar. This was one of many years of calendars from the neighborhood grocery store - which ended its 65 years of service in 2003 -- the last in the city!

Advertising Groceries, Meats and Vegetables, the calendar features a different page for every month, with recipes and household hints on the back and a 'pocket' on each to hold additional recipes, receipts, etc. It measures 8 by 11.25 inches.

There's even a neat little pencil on the metal hanger at top. The back of the calendar provides a useful table of Basic Proportions, with the basic recipes for making biscuits, griddle cakes, muffins and more. It's handy for those 'recipes you know so well from using over and over again that you don't need a cookbook!'

Condition of the calendar is AS NEW, with no defects at all - even after 60+ years! A great find for the collector of calendar, grocery store, Marshalltown, and cute kids' items!
