Circa: 1960 Condition: New. One of a kind just found! Manufacturer: Seward ISBN: 1950607013
Limited Edition of this size 13x15 of 1,000.
Black and White Photograph developed direct from the copy/negative and example of the Certificate of Authenticity. Due to it's rarity, the actual photograph is not shown in it's full size so that no one can make a copy. It's the real thing though!
Printed from a One Of A Kind photograph from the Johnny Cash shot my late husband captured and developed. The negative was found in a small box Ed saved from his 1960-1970's photography business. I was packing things and getting ready to move and there it was in the back of our bedroom closet! I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Ed was a wonderful photographer as well as a talented sax and bass player.
There was also a proof along with the negative in the box that I found. These have both been extensively documented and anyone reproducing this photograph in part or in full view will be prosecuted. This was my late husband's gift to me.
In my husband's honor, I am producing a limited edition of 1,000 of this Johnny Cash photograph 13 x 15 size. Each will be numbered. Since they are all coming from the negative, all numbers will be equally valuable. My husband's illness caused his writing to become illegible so had a stamp made of his own signature. I will place the stamp of his signature on the bottom, white portion of photograph and the certificate of authenticity. Of course, the photograph has not been signed by Mr. Cash since I found this after his death.
There is no doubt this photograph has never been published by anyone else. This is a rare part of history that was lost until this moment. Even antique gasoline pump collectors should love this photograph! I never heard of, Red Crown Gasoline.
Like Mr. Cash's peronality, the entire atmosphere of the photograph is dark. Measuring 13 inches by 15 inches, the photograph depicts Johnny Cash holding the handle of an antique looking Red Crown gasoline pump that was probably produced by the Wayne Pump Company in Salisbury, Maryland. My husband was their official photographer. It is my belief that the photograph was taken to promote the pump company rather than Mr. Cash. But, perhaps it was a favor for a fellow musician.
Again, it is extremely dark, but seems to blend with Mr. Cash's desire to always wear black. He seems quite young in the photograph.
The certificate of Authenticity will tell its history as I know it. This is such a rare discovery that I have safely locked up the negative and the proof at the bank. The 1,000 copies are being produced from the copy/negative so they are truly ORIGINALS and not just prints!
Included is A numbered, stamped Photograph and matching, numbered certificate of authenticity. To keep the cost down, for buyers, I have not framed them.
I am not interested in selling the negative or the proof. Numbers 1 through 10 will be kept in our family. We cannot know what number you will receive since we do not know how many will be sold on a given day. If you know even more about the circumstances that brought my husband, Mr. Cash and the Wayne Pump gas pump together for this photograph, we would love to hear all about it.
