Fisher was appreciated in his time for his ability to draw beautiful women, and his "Fisher girl" became a rival to those of Gibson and Christy. For many years he was under an exclusive contract to do covers for Cosmopolitan, and he was much sought after for private portraiture. The monochromatic, carefully painted moonlit scene offered here, done by Fisher in mid-career (1910), is typical of the romantic nature of his work, which today commands high prices.
