Attractive and unusual old Nippon compote with stylized 5-petalled blue flowers trimmed in gold. This compote is in very good condition. In the picture on the right it looks as if there is paint missing from two of the flowers (the one at 6 o'clock and at 9 o'clock) but this is just due to a light reflection and not damage. Both the rim of the bowl and the edge of the base are trimmed in black and are gilded, and in addition, the base has 3 indentations that are similarly decorated. The wider decorated band around the base matches the band on the outside of the bowl and the decoration around the flowers. Early Nippon mark (green wreath with an M, which says "Hand Painted" and "Nippon"). Approximately 5 inches in height and the bowl has a diameter of 7¼ inches. |
