This attractive multi-faceted art glass paperweight was made in commemoration of the 1976 Bicentennial by Carl Kraft, a well-established glassblower who worked at Owens-Illinois Glass in Toledo, Ohio. The central white plaque depicts the Liberty Bell and the dates 1776 and 1976. This rests on an opaque ruby and white mottled base that has a row of evenly spaced controlled bubbles. A single top facet is surrounded by 2 rows (of 10 facets in each) of facets. The base has a clear pontil stamp that is an apple with the words: "by Kraft Toledo Ohio"; it is also artist signed and numbered ("Kraft #179). This was obviously made in a limited edition, but I do not know how many of these were made. Diameter: 3". This and all the Kraft paperweights in our TIAS shop came from the estate of Carl Kraft and a BIOGRAPHY of CARL KRAFT can be found in the description of other another Kraft paperweight we have on TIAS (see item J077). |
