This rare coin silver serving spoon was made by Wood & Hughes of New York, circa 1865. It has a lovely engraved gold washed bowl and the handle has a band of applied beading down its middle and a large three dimensional medallion face at its top. The gold wash is on the front of the bowl and not the back, although our pictures show light reflections that suggest it is also on the back. The engraved decoration on the front is crisp and clear. The spoon is in very good condition, but does show fine light scratches from use and also polishing, especially on the underside of the neck of this spoon. On the back of the handle is engraved in script "MA Hunt from CM Hunt" and the makers initials. A rare and dramatic piece of antique coin silver! Length: 9½ inches. |
