  • 6 Point Star Of David Victorian Milk Glass Opaline White Judaica Dish

Avis Yuni Antiques & Collectibles

Manufacturer: Victorian Milk Glass
An antique, Victorian milk glass small dish or small plate, also known as a trinket or pin dish. While largely an outer hexagon or 6 sided shape, this has an impressed deep center section in the shape of a 6 pointed star also known as a Star of David. There is molded raised beading, curlicues and a suggestive floral design, with these highlighted by the remains or remnant of a dark gold paint.

Measures about 5 5/8 inches greatest width, sitting about 9/16 inch in height. This old trinket dish weighs 5.2 ounces unpacked and will be shipped in a box.

While an overall white color with dark gold highlighting, this is not the bright solid white of mid 1900s milk glass, but the more opaline white of Victorian milk glass. When held up to a light, this piece is translucent. As common with Victorian milk glass, the very outer edges have an opal type clarity rather than being solid white right to the edges of the piece. There is no manufacturer marking on this vintage piece, but on the underside base there is a raised/molded number 2 shown backwards and within a raised circular line.

We've provided 8 images to show from varied angles. Please note that the camera causes white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth glass surfaces and sometimes blands out the detail, so we've shown images shot both with and without the camera lighting (those without the light appear darker but provide added detail). Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.

Very nice antique condition with no major large flaws, but there is expected evidence of age. While hard to find, we see two very small chips among the beading on the outer edge of this pin dish. As mentioned prior, this piece has the remnants of gold decor. There was likely much more gold on this small plate when it was made, but time and washings have removed much of this. However, we find what is remaining to provide a nice overall antique look and certainly adds to the believeability of age here. There are no large chips, pieces missing, cracks, crazing. You can see straw marks & lines as well as many dots, bubbles & burst bubbles in the glass (common with Victorian manufactured pieces, this is a pressed glass, molded glass dish). There is other wear via some scratches, pin/pit/dark dots/stray gold dots, etc., but nothing bad here at all.

A nifty antique glass dish which would make a great addition to any collection of Victorian milk glass, or a collection related to Judaica or Jewish items, or one relating to star shaped pieces.
