Circa: 1945 Condition: Good+ Type: Glued Wraps Publisher: Kansas State Board of Agriculture Author: Dr. Arthur Goodrich Pages: 340 ISBN: Not applicable
If you’re interested in bird life in the Midwest, you’ll be thrilled with the 340 pages of detailed information, drawings and color prints in this 1945 edition of Birds in Kansas! Published as a report of the Kansas State Board of Agriculture in 1945, the 5.75- by 8.75-inch softcover book was compiled by Dr. Arthur Goodrich of the Kansas State University Department of Zoology.
Included in the text are: Birds and Mankind; Life of a Bird; Body of a Bird; Naming of Birds; Birds of Long Ago; Contemporary Birds of Kansas; Common Kansas Birds; Water Birds; Land Birds; Systematic Arrangement of Birds in Kansas; Colloquial Names; and Lists of other States and State Birds. A great deal of in-depth information – with black/white photos and drawings -- is featured.
The book includes six wonderfully-colored illustrations of individual birds in their habitat. These plates are full-page sized and likely could be framed. Even a page of bird houses appropriate for individual bird families is shown!
Birds of Kansas is in Good+ condition with some exterior damage but nothing we noted inside. The covers are bruised a bit on the corners/edges and are taped the to spine. A few scuff marks show on the front, with a corner crease at top of back. Still – it’s full of great information – and a great way to increase your enjoyment of bird-watching this winter!
