3126

Kay Mallek Tile - Pony / Horse A 6 inch tile done by Kay Mallek of what I would call a painted pony. The tile was done on a Pomona tile blank and is marked as such on back. Tile does have some minor edge roughness, but is still a great addition to any Kay Mallek collection.

3264

Alhambra Kilns Pelican Tile 1926 - 1937 A wonderful 3-1/2" Pelican tile done by Alhambra Kilns of Santa Monica 1926 - 1937. Tile is in good condition, nice glaze colors and a good pressing. Looks like a yellow glaze dripped from another tile above in the firing process and hit the edge. Just below that yellow drip on the edge there is a chip, my guess would be that the yellow formed a "globe" and was probably removed at the factory.
The back mark is hard to read due to some adhesive that is on the back, but portions can be made out.
Tile is 5/8" thick

Click here to enlarge image and see more about item ArmoireB: Christopher Dresser 8 " Cranes Flying Over Waves in Moonlight Tile

Click for more detail...

ArmoireB

Christopher Dresser 8 " Cranes Flying Over Waves in Moonlight Tile This outstanding and fine tile was designed by Christopher Dresser for Mintons China Works, England, ca 1875. It measures 8"square, and is fully glazed on the back and sides, which is a bit unusual, this would generally protect the tile from absorbing moisture and cracking / spalling in freezing weather conditions. The blue glaze is quite a bit more captivating than shown in the photos. The scene is of 3 cranes flying by moonlight over the water and waves.

The tile is in generally very, very nice condition. Virtually no tiles of this era are in new, unused condition. There are some areas of VERY minor edge roughness at the top.

This is an extremely nice example.

This tile is pictured in the book -The Decorated Tile- by J & B Austwick, page 91. It is considered rare.
