Manufacturer: American Encaustic Tiling Company
This outstanding ceramic inkwell was made by the American Encaustic Tiling Company, of Zanesville, Ohio, as an advertising piece, for their company. The inkwell has an area for two pens to rest (near the front), and two wells for ink, with the original pottery lids. The AETCO logo, within a circle, sits between the two wells. The logo is faint because the glaze was so heavily pooled. done in varying shades of blue, with tints of gold showing up in places, the glaze is truly wonderful. This measures just shy of 6 inches across, 5 inches from back to front, and sits about 1 1/2 inches high. Dating the pottery made by AET is tricky; my best guess is that this was made around 1930 - 1940. The well, and the two lids, are in excellent condition. ( T1099G )
