Manufacturer: southern folk potteries
This pottery medicine jar, also referred to as apothecary jars, is hand made and hand thrown. Split handle and simply an outstanding glaze. Measures 7" tall and about 8" from handle to handle. Unmarked - red clay base. I believe this is a piece by AR Cole, circa 1930's - 40's. The glaze looks a lot like his "mistake crystal blue" glaze - see page 156 of A. Everette James book "North Carolina Art Pottery". In outstanding condition - no chips, cracks, hairlines. (#T-1802)
Key words: southern folk ceramic art
