Manufacturer: Columbia Encaustic Tiling Company
This 6" square tile depicts Richmond Pearson Hobson (1870-1937) - done in multi color transfer printing with a clear majolica glaze. Made by the Columbia Encaustic Tiling Company of Anderson, Indiana, which was in business from 1889 - 1903. Hobson served with Admiral Sampson on the USS New York, and is considered one of the heros of the Spanish American War. Tile has 2 edge chips and generally rough edge. There is quite a bit of scratching to the tile surface. An extremely unusual, hard to find, historical commemorative tile. Note that we have another tile in this historical series - one depicting Admiral Sampson. (#3215)
