Manufacturer: Adderley China
Lovely antique cup and saucer, made by Adderley in what we believe to be the Montroyal pattern. Both pieces are marked on the underside bases with "Montroyal, Made in England by Adderleys Ltd, Best Bone China". Pattern is a white porcelain with delicate colored flowers and an intricate black design, with a black lined yellow thin band on the interior of the cup and surrounding the indentation for the cup on the saucer, and a thin gold line edging to both pieces. Very ornate looking. Pieces look to be tea cup (teacup) size.
Cup and saucer together sit about 2 3/4 inches in height. Saucer is round with flared up rims, measuring 5 1/2 inches in diameter. Cup sits about 2 3/8 inches in height alone, with a top round opening diameter of 3 3/4 inches and a cinched-in base measuring about 1 3/4 inches in diameter. The cup handle has an elegant scrolled effect with gold line accenting. Please note that the white "hot spots" in the images are lighting reflections from the camera.
Very pretty, eye-catching condition, but these pieces do have some age wear flaws. There are no major chips, cracks or crazing, but on very close examination we do see two tiny flakes on the rim of the saucer which someone has touched up with a bit of gold paint. There is some age wear on the gold (not really bad, but if you look closely you'll see it) and tiny scratches on the pieces from use which are only visible if you look closely at an angle in bright light. There is also age wear to the black line decor (again not bad, but there), some pin/pit dots, and a rubbed spot on the underside of the saucer. All not unexpected for old pieces which were likely used, but they are still in great overall shape and would make a neat addition to any collection of this terrific pattern, Adderley pieces, or cups & saucers in general.
