Manufacturer: Wood Sewing Items
Wonderful vintage all wood darner or wood sock darning egg in a blond wood or light tan color. Measures about 5 13/16 inches long and about 1 3/4 inches greatest width/depth. This collectible sewing piece weighs about 2.3 ounces unpacked.
We don't know what type of wood this antique sock darner is made of. It was made in two pieces, one for the handle and one for the darner egg or rounded end (the two pieces are firmly attached to each other but if you hold the bottom still you can rotate the handle without moving the bottom egg shaped piece).
We have shown 6 images shot with two different camera lighting settings and at different angles. We had trouble showing details of this piece accurately due to the camera lighting reflection off the light colored wood surface which is likely coated with a reflective clear shiny varnish. The first image shot in stronger lighting best reflects the true light coloring to this darner. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Terrific vintage used condition with no major flaws -- no large chips, cracks, pieces missing -- but lots of surface wear/use wear evident on the large end of the egg with the surface varnish here having been worn away. There is surface wear via many small use scratches, rubbed spots, tiny surface nicks (not large chips), etc. throughout the piece (egg end and along the handle, particularly near top). We don't see any cracks but the wood does have natural lines and striations to it so perhaps there may be some tiny lines we are missing as just part of the natural wood, we're not sure. There is a small hole at the top end of the handle so perhaps someone once had a screw/ring attached here for hanging, we don't know. Regardless, there is nothing here to worry about, all this adds to the believeability of the age and use of this old piece.
A nice addition to any collection of sock darners, vintage sewing items or sewing collectibles, or one of great old wooden pieces or kitchen and household collectibles in general.
Please note that we have many other sewing, wood and kitchen items listed separately for sale. If you wish to purchase more than one, please e-mail us before placing the order since the shipping information has been inputted for a purchase of just one and will not calculate the savings you would get when purchasing more than one shipped together in the same package (we will need to handle this for you). |
