Manufacturer: Web Silver Company
Lovely large vintage cake or pie server with a sterling silver handle out of a home. This is marked on the handle where it meets the serving blade with "Web Sterling Handle" on both side of the piece. On the blade itself it is stamped "Web Silver Co. (Company), Sheffield, England" and "Forged Stainless Steel", with these marked on just one side of the piece. We believe from some internet research that the raised intricate pattern on the handle is called Ancestry. The blade is serrated on one edge for ease in cutting. It is not monogrammed on the handle.
This old Web sterling piece measures 9 3/8 inches long x 2 1/16 inches greatest width (at the lower end of the blade). This piece weighs 81.6 grams overall (we can't tell you the weight of just the sterling handle). It is not a sterling scrap piece, nor being sold at sterling scrap value.
We've provided 7 images to try and show from different angles with close-ups including 2 shots of the sterling mark. We were not able to provide a close-up of the markings on the blade due to how the camera lighting would reflect when we tried, but you can see these markings are there in one image and we guarantee this is what it states. Please note that the camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections on the shiny metal surface. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Excellent vintage used condition. We have not shined this piece and are selling it as is/as found. The handle could use a good polishing. While not darkly tarnished, it does have an overall light/medium tarnish look with spotting, variations to the gray coloring, etc. as expected with a not polished/shined piece. There are no bends, cracks, chips. We do see unevenness where the blade is attached to the handle (it does not have a straight across line look on both sides) and a small curved line in the metal here but this looks to be as made/manufactured and nothing one would see when in use (everything is firmly attached). The serrated edge on the blade is all there, but some of the triangular points are higher than others, again we think this is as made and is very usable. There are many light scratches from use/storage on the blade (this is not a new item) but nothing unexpected or bad that anyone would notice. Just a neat piece with a sterling handle ready for use in your entertaining.
