Manufacturer: Vintage Glass Christmas Ornaments
This is a very old thin walled clear glass Christmas ornament. In has a clear rounded pontil dot on the bottom, so we believe it to be hand blown, perhaps into a mold, but we don't see any mold lines. The glass is formed into a bumpy rounded shape so we believe this was meant to be reminiscent of a berry of some sort (it could be meant to be a nut, but with the red paint we mention below, it seems more likely to us that this would be a berry).
The ornament has a slightly elongated thin neck. There is no top cap, just an old metal hanger inserted into the top. We don't know if this originally had a top cap or not, this is how we got it out of an older home. The glass at the top rim is not chipped, so if it once had a cap, it does not appear to have lost it due to breakage. The hanger holds firmly to the glass so it is good for hanging.
As you can see in the six images, originally this berry was painted red, but most of the red paint is long gone, with just enough left to suggest what was there and give this that neat aged look (think shabby chic). This may have once had other colored paint, as there are browner paint remains on the rest of the ornament.
Measures just under 2 inches in length to top of curved metal hanger, about 1 1/4 inches in width and depth. While overall round, this is not perfectly round as made, with a slant to one bottom side edge.
From the size, thin walled glass, paint condition and overall style, our guess would be this ornament dates to the 1920s period, however we can't guarantee that. There is no manufacturer or country of origin marking on this ornament.
There are no chips, cracks, pieces missing, with the paint condition mentioned above and the lack of a topside cap being the main condition issues. But we think this all adds to the believability of age here, and it is becoming harder to find older ornaments of this type. Please use the zoom feature to examine the images closely.
We are listing many other Christmas ornaments. Should you be interested in more than one listing, please contact us prior to placing the order so that we can provide you with shipping cost savings by packing them in one package. The system will automatically provide shipping costs for each listing as if mailed separately. We would be pleased to calculate and provide the postage savings for you. |
