Manufacturer: Vintage Tie Clips
Neat find out of a home. This is a vintage men's tie clip or tie clasp. It is gold tone base metal (not gold, we don't know what type of metal this is, a magnet does stick to some of it), with another oval décor piece attached on the topside. This is oval metal with a domed upper section which we think is glass (it's cool/cold to the touch in a normal room), but could be plastic, we're not sure. Within the dome is a great graphic of two horse heads with bits & rigging that from the style looks to us like the horses are moving quickly or racing (we are not equestrian or horse experts). It looks to us like these horses are raised versus their white background, so perhaps these horses are made of a painted raised metal, but given the tightly affixed top dome we don't know for certain.
Measures 1 3/4 inches in length for the full tie clasp x 7/8 inch for the height or upper dimension for the oval décor piece. There is a sturdy, curved clasp piece with sawtooth teeth on the backside which will hold this firmly to any tie. This tie clip weighs about 1/2 ounce. There is no manufacturer or country of origin marking on this men's jewelry piece. We don't know the age of this tie clasp, but from the style we would guess that it dates from the 1950s-1970s period.
We've provided 6 images to show front and back sides, differing angles and one with a quarter for size comparison. Please note that the camera lighting causes some white "hot spots" due to reflection on the smooth metal & domed surfaces. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
While this will look fine when worn, it does have wear indicative of age. The gold tone metal shows a good bit of wear, via scratches, rubbed areas, general surface wear/pitting, general age wear/light spotting, etc. It is possible that the metal could be shined up to look much better with a general metal polish but we have not done so (since many people want these in old, as found condition), and are selling this as is/as found. However, the horse picture décor looks vibrant & colorful. There are 2 faint smudges or discoloration lines in the white near the horse noses as you can see in the images, which we believe is as made (we thought at first this was just some shadowing from the dome but these are there). The glass/plastic dome is also in good shape with no chips or cracks, and still very clear. If you look with a loupe in very bright light at an angle, you can see some light wear on the dome as one would expect from use/wearing/storage, but nothing bad or that detracts from the great view of the horses. The backside metal also shows age via dot spotting/discoloration, and other general wear (scratches, rubbed spots, etc.). |
