Neat find out of a home. This is a never used, never opened vintage milk bottle cap or insert for an old glass milk bottle.
This was made for and marked for Fitzgerald Farms of Watertown, New York (NY), for use with their Grade A Pasteurized Milk. The cap also mentions the company name, W. H. Fitzgerald Est., and phone number, "Phone 4779-J2". Since this is shown as a 6 digit phone number with no area code, and since some internet research suggests that area codes first began use in 1947, these bottle caps were likely produced for use prior to 1947, although we don't know exactly when.
We actually have multiple copies of this same milk bottle cap insert, all identical, which came out of the same home. They are priced individually/each. We have shown images of just one milk bottle cap for perspective.
Round, with a diameter of about 1 5/8 inches, made of paperboard with a single staple in the cap and a thickness of about 1/16th inch. We are saying this was never used because the flap one would pull up on in the center of the cap in order to lift the cap insert out of the top of the bottle has never been pulled up, this piece/flap is entirely flat as originally produced.
We've shot images both with and without the camera lighting. The flash of the camera lightens the look and coloring of this piece, making it appear "whiter" and newer looking, rather than the slightly aged paper look in person, but this lets you see the detail of this piece better. Not using the flash, on the other hand, makes this piece appear darker than it will look in person. The true coloring is a cross in between these two options (sorry, we did the best we could). Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Excellent aged paper vintage condition. There may be slight expected original printing flaws/uneven coloring, but nothing bad. There may be slight variations in the printing across the multiple caps as usually occurs, but nothing bad at all, all are in great shape. The backsides are evenly tanned (some may show slight storage wear/marks on the back side but again, nothing bad). Ready to add to your collection or display on a milk bottle you own.
Please note that this item must be shipped by U.S.P.S. First Class Mail Package rate (we will encase the milk bottle cap in cardboard to help prevent from bending). It can't be shipped via U.S.P.S. Media Mail, so pleased don't choose that option.
