Manufacturer: Erdman Bros. Dairy
Neat find out of a home. This is a vintage milk bottle cap or insert for an old glass milk bottle. This one does not have a staple in it nor a center tab which you would pull up to take this out of the milk bottle, so we think this piece was made to be inserted into another piece which together formed the milk bottle cap. We don't know that for certain, but that is our best guess (and we've seen some milk bottle caps made in that manner).
This was made for and marked for Erdman Bros. (Brothers, Dairy), for use with their Skim Milk. The cap also states their street location, Carbon St., and has a small circle symbol at the top which has a Red Cross type symbol in it.
This cap is slightly smaller than some of the others we've been listing. Round, with a diameter of about 1 3/8 inches, made of paperboard and a thickness of about 1/16th inch. This milk bottle cap is entirely flat as originally produced.
We've shot images both with and without the camera lighting. The flash of the camera lightens the look and coloring of this piece, making it appear "whiter" and newer looking, rather than the aged, tanned paper look in person, but this lets you see the detail of this piece better. Not using the flash, on the other hand, makes this piece appear darker than it will look in person. The true coloring is a cross in between these two options (sorry, we did the best we could). Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Very nice overall aged paper vintage condition. This has a very slightly used look, not specifically dirty or smudged, but not pristine. It may be that this was used or taken off a used milk bottle, or perhaps stored in a manner that it got slightly dirty/dusty/rubbed against other items, just looks generally older and perhaps slightly worn, but not really bad. There is a little light spotting in the upper area near the "B" in "Bros." and a bit of paperboard wear near the town name at the bottom. The underside also has an overall slightly dirty look, more so than on the topside. Still hard to find and ready to add to your collection.
Please note that this item must be shipped by U.S.P.S. First Class Mail Package rate (we will encase the milk bottle cap in cardboard to help prevent from bending). It can't be shipped via U.S.P.S. Media Mail, so pleased don't choose that option.
We have listed many milk bottles and other milk bottle caps for sale. If you are interested in more than one item, please e-mail us prior to placing the order. The system is set up to compute shipping for each item individually and will not calculate the savings you would get by shipping multiple items packed together. We would be pleased to calculate that for you. |
