Manufacturer: Vintage Austria Rhinestone Jewelry
Sparkly, colorful vintage pin or brooch found out of an older home. Marked "Made in Austria" on the backside. It consists of a base gold tone metal (this is not gold, a magnet does not stick to this) with 70 colored rhinestones bracket set or bracketed on the topside in lines and rows. The shape is that of a slightly slanted rectangle (or parallelogram) which reminds us of a flag (although there is no "pole").
Measures about 2 1/8 inches x 1 1/2 inches. The rhinestones come in four colors: a bright red that we would call magenta rather than a "stop sign" red color, a dark green, a rich dark blue and a dark purple. This older pin has a standard pin bar closure on the backside which is slightly bowed (we think this is how this came/was made but it is possible that the bar curved over time with use). Closure works fine. Weighs .7 ounce or 20 grams unpacked. We think this is a mid century piece, or possibly dating back to the 1930's, but don't know for certain.
We've provided 8 images to show from varied angles including one with a quarter for size comparison and a close-up of the Austria marking. Please note that the camera lighting creates white "hot spot" reflections on the smooth rhinestone top surfaces. Importantly, the lighting also significantly lightens the color of the rhinestones in the images. All the colors appear lighter and brighter in the images, where they are darker and richer in person (due to shining such intense light right into/onto the rhinestones). The pin will still appear very lovely in person, but the colors will look darker than you see in the images (sorry, we did the best we could). Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
Wonderful overall vintage condition with no major breaks, rhinestones missing, etc., but does show evidence of age/wear. The rhinestones are all colorful, not dark or black. All appear strongly set in their brackets although some are set at an angle rather than flat (this appears as made). We have not replaced any rhinestones nor attempted to clean this piece and are selling as is/as found. If you examine very closely with a loupe at an angle in bright light you can see on the rhinestone smooth topside surfaces many scratches and other general light wear, as well as a few having center top tiny chips and a number of very tiny edge chips to the rhinestones. Nothing unexpected for a used piece and all of this is extremely small and nothing that you will see with the naked eye nor when worn, but you should know this is there. The side and backside metal shows expected surface wear with some tiny discoloration/spots, scratches, etc.
