Manufacturer: Vintage Christmas Ornaments
Nifty pair of vintage Christmas ornaments which came out of the same older home. This is a pair of white deer or reindeer, which can be used either standing or hanging on a tree with a fully molded hanging loop on the mid backs. These appear to be made of celluloid or plastic, we don't know which. From the molded hanging loop and style we believe these to date to the 1950's or 1960's or are Mid-Century items. We see no manufacturer or country of origin markings on these old holiday ornaments.
Identical, each measuring about 3 1/2 inches long, standing about 3 1/2 inches in height (to the tip of their outstretched antlers) and about 1 inch in depth. These figures are light-weight, weighing about .75 ounce together, unpacked (but they will be shipped carefully wrapped in a box for protection). They are fully molded with nostrils, eyes, molded ridges for their fur/skin, hooves, etc. They are fully white except for tiny brown dots in the centers of their eyes.
These are not "solid" deer and appear to be hollow inside. They appear to be made from gluing/cementing the two sides of the figure together, with a seam line running horizontally around the bodies and evidence of old, yellowing glue on the underside of the bodies. We don't think these were glued together by a former owner but that this is darkened glue from the original manufacture.
We've provided 8 images of these old Christmas tree ornaments to show from varied angles. The camera lighting causes white "hot spot" reflections off the celluloid surfaces. It also can "bland out" some details so we've included one image shot without the camera light. Please use the zoom feature to examine closely.
While attractive and fully usable, either standing or hanging on a tree, these are not mint and do show some use/wear which is supportive of their age. You can see in the images that on one deer 3 of the antler points are chipped/broken off versus the other deer where all are present. This doesn't "jump out" right away when you see these, but you will see this on closer inspection. Both reindeer have dirt/wear/tiny brown or dark spots/areas on their fur in some places, not everywhere but you can see this is present in several areas on each. We're not sure whether this could be washed off, we didn't try due to the fragility of the celluloid, and are selling these as is/as found. There is other expected light evidence of age, wear, rubbed wear, etc., as to be expected, but no other chips, cracks or major flaws that we see.
We have listed many other Christmas ornaments. Should you be interested in more than one listing, please contact us prior to placing the order so that we can provide you with shipping cost savings by packing them in one package. The system will automatically provide shipping costs for each listing as if mailed separately. We would be pleased to calculate and provide the postage savings for you. |
