Manufacturer: HO Gauge New Haven Railroad
This is a vintage toy train passenger car out of a home. It was used and shows expected use/handling/age wear as will be described. We are not train experts so please review the description and the images carefully using the zoom option to better understand this piece.
We believe it to be HO gauge as the underside wheel rims are spaced about 5/8ths of an inch apart or .625 inches apart. The passenger car itself, without the couplings, measures about 9.25 inches in length x about 1 1/2 inches in width and stands about 2 inches tall. The passenger car weighs about 5.5 ounces unpacked and would be shipped in a box for safety.
We believe the vintage train car is made of plastic (a magnet doesn't stick to this) with an overall silver coloring and a vivid orange section surrounding the windows. What is most fun here are the silhouette images of people, alone or in small groups, shown spaced out in some of the windows, with differing people images in several of the windows on each side of the train car. The silhouettes appear against windows that largely have a clear type background. On one side of the passenger car you can clearly see people silhouettes in 4 of the windows, although some seem seated lower in their windows than others (we guess like people often do). On the other side of the car, you can clearly see people seated in two of the windows (although one is seated lower), with the hint of a person visible in a small square window at the right end of this car. We don't know if that means the silhouette strip has slipped slightly on this side, but it seems firmly affixed to us. We think this is one of those lighted passenger cars but we can't confirm that as we can't see any light bulbs from the outside and don't have a means of testing this passenger car, so we can't tell you whether the lights, nor the car itself, would work right now if placed on a train set/track.
The overall condition is used. On both sides of the vintage passenger car, near the slightly domed lid, clearly appears the railroad name, New Haven (for New Haven Railroad, we believe), with Pullman also appearing clearly under the windows in the center, all words crisp and readable (the word Pullman on one side has touches of wear but still very readable). This is a replica of a Pullman Passenger Car. The car number, 238, appears in four places, again in good shape, twice on each side of the car near each end.
The train couplings are present on both ends of the car, but we think there is some wear on both of them. What we note is that, while the vertical peg pieces are there, we think they may be shorter with the very pointed tip ends missing. We don't know how this effects the use of these couplings. The wheel units (4 wheels per unit, 8 wheels total) swivel freely left and right, and have touches of rust on them, but not bad (we don't see any other rust on this vintage train car). The outside of the railroad car is in overall nice shape, showing signs of wear/age but nothing bad. There are dots of wear/spots on the dome ridges and a few on the sides of this car, with some darker horizontal wear above and below the word Pullman on one side. There is other general wear, but nothing unexpected, which may be able to be cleaned up we don't know, and are selling this as is/as found.
Still a neat older piece that could add fun to a toy train setup. We actually have two of these New Haven RR Pullman Cars (out of the same home) but are listing them separately as A and B in case someone wants just one (each with images of that train car). If you wish to purchase more than one, we would be pleased to ship them together in the same box to save you on postage. The system won't automatically provide the postage discount as it is set up for shipping each separately, but we would be pleased to calculate that for you. Please email us before inputting the order. |
