Neat original book illustration from 1885 edition of Picturesque Tours in America, the Junior United Tourist Club, edited by the Rev. Edward T. Bromfield, published by R. Worthington, NY. The date does not appear on-page but was present on the book's title page from which this came and we guarantee the age and what this is. The book was not in good shape so the good pages/book prints were removed and are being sold individually. Please see our other listings for the other pages available.
Measures about 7 1/4 x 9 1/2 inches. This page has a picture on one side with book copy/words on the other side and a separate, smaller picture on that side. The main picture here is labelled at the bottom, "View on the Missisquoi River, Vermont". It is a black and white line drawing (not a photograph, no color on page), showing a lovely flowing river view full of boulders in the water, surrounded by mountains covered with trees, with a rustic wood building in the background and two men fishing in the foreground. The smaller image with book copy on the reverse side shows a pretty mountain and valley scene which is labelled underneath, "Mount Mansfield, Mass." (MA, Massachusetts). We have provided 3 images showing both page sides.
Excellent condition for age. Page has likely darkened over time, with some browning at outer edges. There is very minor page wear, with spotting and/or some on-page creasing, but nothing unexpected or to worry about here. At least one page edge has been trimmed where it was removed from the book. As printed, on the large river image side, the black ink seems to be slightly darker near the top of the image, seeming to form 5 darker horizontal lines across the sky area of the image. These are not folds/creases nor dirt/wear, and the picture itself is made with many thin wavy horizontal lines in the background area. But something in the printing of this page applied darker ink seeming to suggest these more noticeable horizontal lines on the image at the top. This is not objectionable, but you should know it is there.
