This is an antique framed aquatint by William Daniell (1769-1837). It is titled Edinburgh Part of the North Bridge and Castle date not known. The aquatint itself measures approximately 9 x 12 inches, and 12.25 x 14.5 with frame. The print is on an ornate heavily gilted frame that is probably wood. The picture appears to be in its original framing and stamped on back by the framer. William Daniell was an English engraver and painter. His paintings focused on landscapes and marine scenes. He did extensive travels to the Far East, to capture one of the finest volumes of art during that period of oriental sceneryy. He also travelled around the coastline of Britain to paint watercolours for the equally ambitious book A Voyage Round Great Britain. His work was exhibited at the Royal Academy and the British Institution and he became a Royal Academician in 1822. The aquatints are in beautiful and framed condition. The frame does have a small chipped area. We also have another print by William Daniell listed titled Lock Scavig Skye. This would make a lovely addition to any art collection or for gift giving.
